It's one of the closest weekends ever as audiences return to Ridley Scott's epic. Story by Matt Cummings This weekend's box office reminded us of the old saying "Just Because It's New Doesn't Mean It's Great," as audiences stayed away from five new releases, while returning a familiar name to No. 1. The planet Krypton is in the final throes of self-destruction and a tearful couple is placing their baby into a small spacecraft with promises of the child’s survival and prosperity on the distant world of Earth. The scene that comes directly after, however, is less familiar. A young girl is also being dispatched into the stars by her parents, with the explicit instructions to guard that baby in the new world. This is Kara Zor-El, the older cousin to this infant, whom our world will come to know as Superman. But Kara’s mission gets a two-decade layover right out of the gate when her pod gets trapped in the Phantom Zone. By the time Kara does make it to Earth, her cousin has already grown into his destiny and he’s the one who shepherds Kara into her new life, setting her up with an adoptive family of trusted scientists. THR is reporting The comedy project, which was to have starred Leslie Mann and be produced by Judd Apatow for Paramount but languished after the duo left, is back on, this time with Mila Kunis, Christina Applegate and Kristen Bell . According to THR , Paramount Pictures has picked up distribution rights to Michael Mann ’s long-in-the-works Ferrari project titled Enzo Ferrari . At the same time, Noomi Rapace is in talks to star opposite Christian Bale , who will play Enzo Ferrari, the Italian auto mogul. The long-gestating project finally got traction when it secured funding from Vendian and YooZoo Bliss Fund. Following the success of helming “ Pitch Perfect 2 ,” Elizabeth Banks is set to return as the director of the next installment in the Universal and Gold Circle Entertainment musical-comedy, sources tell Variety . Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson have already closed deals to return, with Kay Cannon on board to pen the script. The studio recently dated the film to bow on Aug. 4, 2017, but at the time Banks was weighing other projects to direct and hadn’t committed to return.
