Win Tickets To An Advance Screening For #THEENDOFTHETOUR In San Francisco

Win Tickets To An Advance Screening For THE END OF THE TOUR on Aug. 4th at 7:00PM in San Francisco. THE END OF THE TOUR tells the story of the five-day interview between Rolling Stone reporter and novelist David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) and acclaimed novelist David Foster Wallace (Jason Segel), which took place right after the 1996 publication of Wallace’s groundbreaking epic novel, “Infinite Jest.” As the days go on, a tenuous yet intense relationship seems to develop between journalist and subject. The two men bob and weave around each other, sharing laughs and also possibly revealing hidden frailties – but it’s never clear how truthful they are being with each other. Ironically, the interview was never published, and five days of audiotapes were packed away in Lipsky’s closet. The two men did not meet again. The film is based on Lipsky’s critically acclaimed memoir “Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace” about this unforgettab

Inside the Bucket Podcast #71

This week's episode of Inside the Bucket is online! Revel in the digital mastery! If last week's Inside the Bucket was of epic proportions (and length), this week will feel like a gentle breeze on your neck, until you realize that hosts Matt and Brandon are actually two very heavy dudes with bad breath! If you can get past their odoriferous issues, you'll actually enjoy a much shorter show, as they deliver the best movie and television news from our website SANDWICHJOHNFILMS.COM with all the style of a bull and full of greasy attitude. But there's no news this week, so the two skip right Blu-ray releases, as well as the final box office report for the weekend, as well as discuss three Blu-rays releasing this week. Afterwards, Matt takes us through a review of Shaun the Sheep , before welcoming Brandon back for a full-blown review of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation . NOTE: The boys also engage in a ton of spoilers, so if you haven't seen it, fas

TV Review: True Detective "Black Maps and Motel Rooms"

Some decent character work finally happens at the 11th hour. Review by Brandon Wolfe As True Detective ’s second season nears its ending, it is building to a crescendo that at once highlights just what’s wrong with the structure of this season while simultaneously cranking up the excitement levels, if just from anemic to watchable. While the dream that the show was waiting until its second half to spring to life is now dead, it has, to its minimal credit, managed to manufacture some adequate late-stage stakes for its central characters. I can’t imagine how fantastic that finale would need to be in order to redeem this whole misbegotten season, but at least the show is finally giving us something to keep our eyelids propped open. "Black Maps and Motel Rooms" finds our core characters at their lowest points, which is fairly remarkable for this collection of wretches. The massive conspiracy has sharpened its defense mechanisms against the task force, making Bezzerides a mur

Movie Review: #ShaunTheSheep

The delightful Shaun the Sheep also feels a bit too long. Review by Matt Cummings In Directors Mark Burton and Richard Starzack's Shaun the Sheep , a group of wooly farm animals and their owner enjoy a carefree (but stilted) life of eating, being herded into pins, all while being taunted by the local gang of pigs. It wasn't always that way: Shaun and his family used to enjoy a happier existence with the Farmer, but times have changed, leading Shaun to desiring a day off. After he and the others trick Farmer into an afternoon nap, things begin to go astray, leading all of them into a high-stakes journey into a local city. There, Shaun must jolt Farmer's memory back after an accident that's left him the new king of hairstylists while keeping an animal catcher from taking the entire flock and Farmer's dog to the shelter. Shaun the Sheep is a non-speaking movie, unless you count the grunts and gestures by the stop-motion characters to be words. That

Win Tickets To An Advance Screening For DARK PLACES  on Aug. 3rd at 7:00PM in San Francisco. Libby Day ( Charlize Theron ) was only seven years old when her mother and two sisters were brutally murdered in their rural Kansas farmhouse. In court, the traumatized child pointed the finger at her brother, Ben ( Tye Sheridan ), and her testimony put the troubled 16-year-old in prison for life. Twenty-five years later, a broke and desperate Libby has run through donations from a sympathetic public and royalties from her sensational autobiography, without ever moving past the events of that night. When Libby accepts a fee to appear at a gathering of true-crime aficionados led by Lyle Wirth ( Nicholas Hoult ), she is shocked to learn most of them believe Ben is innocent and the real killer is still at large. In need of money, she reluctantly agrees to help them reexamine the crime by revisiting the worst moments of her life. But as Libby and Lyle dig deeper into the circumstances

#BoxOffice Report: Cruise Cruises to Easy #MissionImpossible Win

The star is back on top as Vacation 's road was bumpy. Story by Matt Cummings Paramount's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation easily won the weekend box office with an estimated $56 million, ranking it as second all-time for a M:I movie - that honor goes to MI:II at just above $57m. The well received Tom Cruise follow up has been gaining traction among critics for weeks, although tracking numbers were actually painting it for a much softer opening of around $40m. Rogue Nation 's final numbers represent the higher end of expectations, and could actually rise once all the numbers are in. A 9:50am screening on Sunday at a local theater actually saw several people waiting in line to buy a morning ticket. With support like that, it's possible we could see it become the No. 1 M:I film ever. With a strong No.1 return, Actor Tom Cruise is definitely back as a bankable action star, perhaps the only one next to Dwayne Johnson. Rogue Nation opened with a s
