BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

New Images From #BatmanVSuperman: Dawn Of Justice

In the September issue, Empire sits down with the brains trust behind the new DC/Warner Bros. superpowered behemoth, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice . It's the beginning of unrivalled coverage of a film that has an awful lot riding on it. The on-set stories, the genesis, the new casting and its place in the fast-developing DCverse are all tackled within, with director Zack Snyder , producers Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven, and its two key protagonists, Henry Cavill (the Man of Steel) and Ben Affleck (the Dark Knight), promising a muscular, dark-hewn epic. These three exclusive new shots from within the article's pages bear that out. See all the images after the Jump... First up is Cavill's Supes, looking like, a) he's inside the burnt-out ruins of Wayne Manor, and b) he's not there to measure it out for new soft furnishing. Below is his adversary, for the majority of the movie at least, in Affleck's Batman. Note the almost medieval shape of th

Movie Review: #Vacation

Vacation makes me want to take a STAY-cation. Review by Matt Cummings It's not too often that a movie makes me wish film never existed, yet her I am ready to give the newest Vacation all the hate it deserves. And hate on it I will. Grown-up Rusty (Ed Helms) is stuck in a dull marriage to Debbie (Christina Applegate), who's been forced year after year to spend vacation with her family at a cabin in Michigan. When the overly optimistic Rusty realizes his family needs a change, he packs them up for a trip to Walley World, the site of his greatest trip as a teen. But soon, his family begins to encounter difficulties and flat-out disasters that could end their road trip and return Rusty's marriage back to square one. It might surprise our readers to know that someone from our team actually considered walking out of Vacation , and we get to see these films for free. That's how bad our experience became as we sat mesmerized by its 99 minutes of ineptit

Channing Tatum Possibly Walking Away from Gambit

Gambit may not pay off for actor. By Brandon Wolfe The Wrap has reported that Channing Tatum is planning to exit 20th Century Fox’s X-Men spin-off Gambit , which was scheduled to begin production this fall for a planned release on October 7, 2016 . No reason has been given for this sudden development, but a source claims that Tatum’s reps are still in discussions with the studio to try and rectify the situation. If Tatum does walk away from Gambit , it will be a major turnaround, as the film was something of a pet project for the actor, one he took to Comic Con earlier this month to promote. Director Rupert Wyatt will have precious little time to find a new leading man or risk the project falling apart. I guess they could always give Taylor Kitsch another spin, in the slim hopes that True Detective has taken some of the tarnish off his star. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . Paul Greengrass will return to the director’s chair for the sequel, which opens exactly one year from now, on July 29, 2016 . Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . TV Review: True Detective “Church in Ruins”

A few sparks can’t save a show in ruins. Review by Brandon Wolfe This far into its second season, it’s now a foregone conclusion that True Detective has forfeited its status as one of contemporary television’s great shows. The remaining two episodes would have to each count themselves among the greatest hours ever broadcast to redeem the sheer amount of inertia and waste we’ve trudged through thus far. No, all True Detective can hope for at this late stage are moments, fleeting shards of promise emanating out of the abyss of tedium. “Church in Ruins,” it must be said, has at least a few such moments. By this season’s standards, that almost looks like a triumph. The first moment comes early on, as Velcoro and Semyon sit across a kitchen table from one another, guns in their hands just underneath, and have a tense discussion about the man Semyon once handed Velcoro for the price of the former cop’s loyalty and soul. Velcoro now knows that this man was not actually responsible for

#BoxOffice Report: #AntMan Beats Bad #Pixels

Adam Sandler continues to disappoint in a very weak weekend Story by Matt Cummings In one of the closest Box Office races this year, Marvel Studios' Ant-Man held on to the number 1 spot, narrowly beating the competition, with an estimated $24.65 million. The Adam Sandler comedy Pixels arrived in second with $24m. But even as the battle raged all weekend - with Pixels beating Ant-Man on Friday, then the positions flip-flopping at least one more time between the days - it became clear box office hauls across the board were lower than expected. But the sting behind Sandler's latest disappointment is particularly pronounced. Stilted by a juvenile script and sadly familiar characterizations of hot women needing ugly, stupid men, Pixels has been lambasted by both critics (earning only 19% on Rotten Tomatoes) and receiving only a 'B' on Cinemascore. Its $24m haul is among the lowest Sandler-led films and perhaps a warning that his stature has finally

TV Review: Hannibal “The Great Red Dragon”

Series finally Hannibalizes Red Dragon Review by Brandon Wolfe One of the facets that made Hannibal ’s second season such a propulsive joy was its unpredictability. There was the tantalizing sense from week to week of not having the slightest clue where the show was going. Tackling areas outside of Thomas Harris’ source material freed the series from the shackles of rote translation, taking the characters to places unfamiliar to scholars of the Harris mythos. Will’s imprisonment, his ambiguous relationship with Hannibal Lecter, and even the fates of notable characters like Frederick Chilton, these elements were all played with wild-card abandon, clueing us into the notion that nothing we knew about these people was considered sacred. This was a series willing to play fast and loose with our perceptions of these characters and the events surrounding them. Hannibal was thrilling because it was rewriting the book on these people. Hell, it was rewriting four books. If Season 3 has fe
