BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Stephen King's The Stand To Become Miniseries and Feature Film

Eight episodes and a movie. By Brandon Wolfe While the film version of Stephen King’s It may have recently fallen apart, the adaptation of the author’s apocalyptic magnum opus The Stand is still going strong. The Fault in Our Stars ’ Josh Boone is still set to direct the adaptation, which he has said in the past he wanted to make into several films to do proper justice to the unusually lengthy novel. However, the plan has changed, as it has now been reported that The Stand will be adapted into an eight-episode miniseries for Showtime, which will then culminate in a theatrical film. Stephen King fans might feel a sense of déjà vu here, as this was initially the plan for the proposed adaptation of the author’s Dark Tower series before that project fell apart. It is certainly an ambitious plan, since it requires a lot of extracurricular work from moviegoers, many of whom might not even have Showtime (presumably, the film itself will function as a stand-alone so as not to alienat

Jason Statham Pursued for Bullseye in Daredevil

Will the action star be transported to Netflix? By Brandon Wolfe Marvel is setting its casting sights high for the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil as rumors have popped up that Jason Statham is being pursued to play the villain Bullseye. Latino Review has reported that Statham has met with Marvel about the role, but that nothing has yet been confirmed. Though Marvel attracted some solid talent for Daredevil ’s first season, like Vincent D’Onofrio and Rosario Dawson, Statham is a genuine box-office star, and with his recent turns in both Furious 7 and Spy , possibly at a peak level of popularity right now. It seems as though if he were to take a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be something on the big screen rather than Netflix. In addition, in an interview released just this morning, Statham had the following to say about Marvel roles that would seem to indicate his lack of interest in any such project: "A lot of the modern sort of action movies I

TV Review: Hannibal "Antipasto"

Dr. Lecter’s meal finally arrives after a long wait. Review by Brandon Wolfe Hannibal was one of last year’s many great television surprises. Like Fargo , it was a show that shouldn’t have worked, based on source material that didn’t seem like it would bend to the rigors of serialized television. The fact that it aired on NBC, a network that didn’t seem possible would, or could, ever go whole-hog on the sort of gruesomely explicit content one expects from any story featuring Hannibal Lecter, only made the series’ prospects seem even dimmer. But, after a solid yet not exquisite first season, Hannibal caught fire in its sophomore year, crafting a season as twisty and unpredictable as it was unprecedentedly gory by broadcast standards. Hannibal became this strange fever dream for its fans. We saw it with our own two eyes, but it didn’t seem real. How could it be this good? The series has been off the air for over a year now, its finale , airing the May before last, leaving the bul

Josh Trank Defends 'Star Wars' Exit

The Chronicle director speaks out on the "toughest decision" of his career. Story by Matt Cummings When news hit on May 1st that Chronicle director Josh Trank was departing the Star Wars universe , it hit fans like a lightsaber through the gut. But speculation about his future emerged earlier at Star Wars Celebration , when he failed to appear, waving flu-like symptoms. His colleague Gareth Edwards did attend, showing off a concept trailer for his film Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One . As news began to swirl about Trank's misfortunes on the set of Fantastic Four - in which his behavior was characterized as "erratic" and Producer Simon Kinberg was brought in to finish the project - fans knew the real story: Trank hadn't merely walked away, he had been fired. Trank was recently interviewed by the LA Times - the first since his departure - shedding a new perspective on the backlash he received from fans and (perhaps) the real reason why he left.

Bryan Singer Teases 'Apocaplyse' Cerebro

Check out what the director's recent Instagram reveals about Professor X's machine. Story by Matt Cummings With Director Bryan Singer planning a July release of his epic X-Men: Days of Future Past Rogue Cut , the director has also been slowing releasing images and casting news from his latest production X-Men: Apocalypse . This includes younger actors to play Jean Grey and Scott Summers , as well as Olivia Munn joining as Psylocke . On Thursday, he released this image on Instagram: Cerebro is Spanish for brain. #Xmen #XmenApocalypse A photo posted by Bryan Singer (@bryanjaysinger) on Jun 4, 2015 at 10:58am PDT From the looks of things, Singer might be using the exact set from Days of Future Past , as not much appears to be different between them. The one item of note is Professor X's instrument panel, which looks more jutted out from the 1970's version. That one also featured a curved analog set up and this one appears with more hard edges. Movie Review: 'Spy'

The ridiculous comedy Spy celebrates the genre while poking male genitalia in its eye. Review by Matt Cummings If any of you winced while watching The Heat or Identity Thief , and outright gagged at the sight of Tammy , you know that Actress Melissa McCarthy has incredibly persevered. Films like those would ruin most careers, but here McCarthy stands, ready for the next challenge. That one arrives in the hilarious action comedy Spy , a renaissance film of sorts that showcases what happens when great talent (finally) meets a competent script and supporting cast. Behind every great spy like CIA agent Bradley Fine (Jude Law) is his support system, in this case the 40-something Susan Cooper (McCarthy), whose stunted rise through the agency has relegated her to Fine's eyes and ears in the vermin-infested CIA headquarters. When Fine is murdered by the arms dealer Rayna Boyanov (Rose Byrne) the overweight, homely Cooper seeks vengeance by posing as a series of embarrass
