A staggering amount of great films arrive in our May Movie Preview. By Brandon Wolfe In celebration of the character’s 75th anniversary, Suicide Squad director David Ayer has tweeted a photo of the Joker as he will be portrayed by Jared Leto . The photo, presenting a tatted-up version of the Clown Prince of Crime, registers something of a shock, as it indicates an extreme reinterpretation of the iconic character, something DC has seemed bent on doing to many of its iconic characters in its bid to craft a cinematic universe of its own. It’s worth mentioning that when images first popped up online of Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight , they too seemed to suggest an initially troubling major overhaul of the character’s appearance, with the long, greasy hair and mutilated smile.
