True Detective Season 2 Teaser Debuts

HBO’s noir series returns June 21. By Brandon Wolfe The teaser for Season 2 of HBO’s True Detective has dropped and is suitably intense and serious-looking. The wordless, minute-long teaser doesn’t provide any hints of plot, just glimpses of new cast members Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch glaring, throwing punches and engaging in shoving matches. Matthew McConaughey’s Rust Cohle is nowhere to be seen, regrettably. The teaser also reveals the premiere date of True Detective 's new season as Sunday, June 21, far earlier than had been previous anticipated. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . Need For Speed Sequel On It's Way

While the critical reaction to last year’s Need For Speed might have made it seem as though any sequel idea would end up rusting in a disused garage, game producers Electronic Arts took a look at the $203 million worldwide box office and decided to try to gear up a sequel. The company is has several Chinese companies looking to help get a new movie made. According to Variety, the plan for this one is to play up those business connections and shoot much of the movie in China, with local actors taking big roles. There’s no word yet on whether any of the cast from last year’s first film – which included Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots and Michael Keaton – will return. And a bigger roadblock is locking down the rights to make the thing at all, since DreamWorks currently holds the option. But EA will almost certainly figure out some sort of deal, especially since the company aims to release more games based in the series. “We are excited to work with EA, one of the world’s most recognized cre

The Time Has Come to Reboot Gremlins

The classic gets wet and spawns a remake. By Brandon Wolfe Because it was a popular thing that happened in the 1980s, it’s now time to brush the dust off of Gremlins for its inevitable reboot. Warner Bros. has hired Goosebumps screenwriter Carl Ellsworth to pen a remake of the 1984 horror-comedy classic about creatures that react poorly to light, water and midnight snacks. Chris Columbus, who wrote the script for the original, will produce the remake along with original producer Steven Spielberg. Notably absent from the report is the participation of original director Joe Dante, whose manic inventiveness was key to the offbeat charms of the original and (especially) its 1990 sequel. Without Dante’s involvement, a Gremlins remake somehow manages to find yet another way to feel entirely pointless. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook .
