The Four are back and fun-time's over. By Brandon Wolfe The first teaser for the hotly unanticipated reboot of Fantastic Four has debuted. The tone at play here is dark and deadly serious, a stark contrast to the bright-colored and comical tone of the Tim Story film from a decade ago. While that is an understandable course-correction, given how loathed that film is, this tonal shift also runs counter to the playful tone of the comic itself, taking the Nolanesque “dark and gritty” approach that studios still seem to gravitate toward even as Marvel continually proves that audiences are OK with fun in their superhero adventures nowadays. At any rate, there’s not much to see here just yet, other than a declaration that this isn’t your slightly older brother’s Fantastic Four. Marvel’s Mutants might be ready for primetime. By Brandon Wolfe It would seem that in addition to dusting off its old properties , Fox has also noticed that synergistic superhero TV shows - optimally those starring Marvel characters - are a big deal these days. So the network has put two and two together and is attempting to create an X-Men television series to work in conjunction with its eternally popular film franchise, according to TVInsider . This plan has a hitch to it, however: 20th Century Fox only holds the film rights to the mutant franchise, meaning that for the studio’s TV division to use the characters in that medium, it would require getting approval from Marvel, who is, of course, owned by Fox’s rival, Disney. But Fox is reaching across the aisle to try to make it happen all the same. "It's in negotiations," Fox Entertainment chairman Gary Newman claims. By Brandon Wolfe Smartly reconsidering the decision to go toe-to-toe with Star Wars in December, Deadline reports that Paramount has opted to bump Mission: Impossible 5 up to July 31, where it will now face a more surmountable opponent in Warner Bros’ wildly uncalled-for remake of Point Break . This is a huge vote of confidence in the Tom Cruise five-quel, as movies are generally far more likely to be pushed back six months rather than moved up.
