Zoolander 2 Adds Penelope Cruz

We’ve been hearing tantalising things about the chances of Zoolander 2 actually coming to life, and a big step has just occurred. Penelope Cruz is now signing on to co-star with Ben Stiller in the comedy sequel. Hey, if Dumb & Dumber can come back and score a hit, why not this? The Zoolander sequel has been in the works for years, with various script drafts passing through. Justin Theroux , who had been attached to direct before his work on HBO drama The Leftovers got in the way, has written the most recent draft on the script, which Stiller is planning to direct. Not much is known about the film’s plot yet, save that it apparently is still set ten years after the events of the original, finds Stiller’s Zoolander and Owen Wilson’s Hansel rejected by the fashion industry after they age out of the sweet spot for male models, leaving them struggling to once again make their names. Interview: John Beaton Hill Talks Wolves of Savin Hill, How It Was Making The Film & More

Interview By: Beevers John Beaton Hill recently walked away with the Chris Brinker award at the San Diego Film Festival for his crime thriller Wolves of Savin Hill – and with good reason, the film is terrific. We spoke to the Boston-born filmmaker about his De Palma-esque thriller, due for release next year. What is it about Los Angeles that lends itself to a good crime thriller story? The setting. Los Angeles is a fantastic and beautiful place and when it’s lit up at night there’s nothing like it. It has its own qualities. It’s also big, and in this way a person can find refuge even from himself. There’s a duality to Los Angeles that makes it both quite beautiful and alluring but also sinister. As a setting, it can make a film special. We looked for this in our film and I think we captured the city well. We were certainly thinking in this regard. How long ago did you set out to make the movie? How tough was it to get off the ground? Approximately two years ago we s

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 Review: A Darker, Deeper Revolution

Although it's beginning is a little slow, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 takes us deeper into the world of Panem's rebellious spirit. For someone who likes but not loves The Hunger Games franchise - and have never read the books - it's been nice to see the story of Panem evolve by exploding into rebellious violence, perhaps serving as a warning to current nations who might wish to radicalize themselves in their twisted perception of a new world order. Regardless of where current world politics will take us, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 is a deeper, darker, and more desolate sequel than perhaps some fair-weather would like, but I think its tone is right on the money, even if it's not a perfect product. Lionsgate has picked up Alpha , a sci-fi project that sees Robopocalypse author Daniel H. Wilson teaming up with Brad Pitt and his Plan B banner. Anthony Scott Burns, a Canadian filmmaker, is attached to make his feature debut with Alpha , which Pitt would produce with his Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. Wilson came up with the original idea and will write the screenplay. Details of the project are being kept secret, but it is known to be sci-fi survival story that has shades of Jack London, the author behind such tales as White Fang and The Call of the Wild. Part of the pitch involved a fake commercial, shot by Burns, for a fictional company that is central to the story. Wilson is the author behind books with a robotics bent, such as How to Survive a Robot Uprising and Robogenesis as well as Robopocalypse, which Steven Spielberg came close to adapting. He also wrote several screenplays, including a remake of Cherry 2000 for MGM and adapting his book Bro-J
