TV Review: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “Face My Enemy” By: Brandon Wolfe If “ Face My Enemy ” is about anything - beyond ‘ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ’s usual “Find Object X before Bad Guy Y does” gobbledygook - it’s about Agent May. May has been a frustrating character on a show that doesn’t really have another kind. The show has painted her from the start as the stoic warrior-woman, an agent so focused on her duties that she doesn’t have much left over for anything like a personal level. This is a workable character type provided you build upon it over time, finding cracks and hidden layers in the character’s façade. With May, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ has never really done that because the show doesn’t appear to know how to build upon anything in any sort of skillful manner. It can insert its characters into the requisite dramatic moments that shows like this require, but enhancing and nurturing basic character-building? TV Recap: THE FLASH "THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE" By: Suepafly There’s a big fire raging, and Barry speeds towards the fire at about 350 mph. He overshoots the fire, and double backs with Cisco’s help. He makes it to the fire, and Cisco gets caught helping him the whole superhero thing. Barry clears the building, and asks Cisco what else he has for him before Caitlin puts the kibosh on their fun. Barry feels a little woozy. Caitlin isn’t so happy with Barry risking himself. Cisco wants to be the ears, and Barry the feet. Barry was suppose to be helping them against other metahumans, but Barry wants to help the people of the city where he can. Harrison points out that he should show some restraint, but Barry doesn’t think that Harrison has ever showed restraint to get to where he is. So far, Universal has largely left it to director Colin Trevorrow to keep the hype machine churning for Jurassic World by premiering teaser imagery on his Twitter feed. While it has been hugely successful, the place and its dino inhabitants have actually become a little less than thrilling for today’s blasé audiences. Javier Bardem is in talks to play the villain in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales , the latest installment of the high seas fantasy. Johnny Depp is, of course, back as Jack Sparrow as is Geoffrey Rush, playing Barbosa, in the big tentpole that is eyeing a five-month shoot next year in Australia. Joachim Ronnin and Espen Sandbreg are directing. Plot details are as murky as a pirate's morals but Bardem would play a ghost captain who blames Sparrow for the death of his brother and is searching for a supernatural object to aid him. Also figuring into the mix will be a love interest for Sparrow, a woman who is accused of being a witch. That co-starring role has not yet been cast. Sources caution that the talks are in an early stage. Sean Durkin , the filmmaker behind Martha Marcy May Marlene , is now tackling a different sort of family drama and is in negotiations to direct Sony's adaptation of Little House on the Prairie . Prairie is best known as the iconic TV series that aired on NBC from 1974 to 1983 and starred Michael Landon as the patriarch of a pioneer family living in the 1880s in the American Midwest. The show was known for is wholesome values and was loosely based on a series of children's books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, who based it on her childhood. (Melissa Gilbert played Laura Wilder on the show.) Scott Rudin is producing the feature project, which has a script by Abi Morgan. David Gordon Green was previously on board to direct. There have already been several trailers for Moneyball director Bennett Miller’s latest based-on-reality drama, Foxcatcher . But the latest offers a much deeper dive into the film’s themes of loyalty, obsession and athleticism. Foxcatcher , written by E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman, tells the gripping, real-life story of Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark Schultz ( Channing Tatum ) and Dave Schultz ( Mark Ruffalo ). They’re invited to launch a wrestling academy funded by the eccentric John du Pont ( Steve Carell ), heir to the du Pont Chemical fortune. Watch the trailer after the Jump... TV Review: Gotham “Arkham” By: Brandon Wolfe All shows need a grace period of varying length when starting in order to find themselves, which is why criticizing ‘ Gotham ’ is proving a bit challenging. How many of its multitude of flaws are growing pains that can be worked out and how many are intrinsically part of the package? The show, quite candidly, has not been very good thus far, but some of the best shows ever aired have had very rocky starts before achieving greatness. ‘ Gotham ’s’ issues don’t seem fleeting; they feel like significant design flaws that won’t be corrected anytime soon because they likely are not recognized as flaws by those in charge. Still, in spite of these hunches, the fourth episode of a pilot season is a bit early to throw something with so much potential onto the scrap heap. Film to kick off the Civil War storyline from the comicbook miniseries Robert Downey Jr. is on the verge of signing on to “ Captain America 3 ,” a move that would bring the Civil War storyline from Marvel’s comicbooks to the bigscreen and trigger the start of a new phase of movies from Marvel Studios. The actor is in final negotiations to play billionaire Tony Stark in the third installment, which is slated to begin production in the Spring for a May 6, 2016, release.
