Top Gun 2 Has Found It's Writer

Skydance is producing the sequel to 1980s classic with Jerry Bruckheimer Justin Marks , the writer behind Disney’s upcoming live-action version of The Jungle Book , in negotiations to work on Top Gun 2 , the sequel to the 1980s Tom Cruise classic that is being made by Paramount and Skydance. The move will goose up the long-in-the-works sequel and comes after the recent Paramount arrival of producer Jerry Bruckheimer. After years with a studio deal at Disney, Bruckheimer moved to the Melrose Avenue-based studio lot in April. David Ellison of Skydance is also producing. Skydance's Dana Goldberg is exec producing. Cruise is slated to return as ace pilot Maverick in a story that aims to show the relevance of good old fashioned pilots in today’s high-tech, drone-centric war environment. Peter Craig, the scribe who wrote Ben Affleck’s The Town, wrote the previous draft a couple of years ago. The project lost some jet fuel when Tony Scott, the director of the 1986 original a

TV Review: The Leftovers "The Prodigal Son Returns"

TV Review: The Leftovers "The Prodigal Son Returns" By: Brandon Wolfe From the start, ‘ The Leftovers ’ has struggled with trying to figure out just what it wants to be. Though the series was sold on a humdinger of a premise – 2% of the world’s population vanishes inexplicably into thin air – the meat of the show has dealt with the small town of Mapleton and its mopey, grief-riddled denizens. That tug-of-war between that tantalizingly fantastic high concept and the low-stakes misery of its characters, with the misery handily winning out, has led to an inert, relentlessly unenjoyable viewing experience. The series could just as easily be about the aftermath of a mass shooting or a pipeline explosion to the same effect. It’s a series about sadness and loss, and little else. Its faux-profundity and all-thumbs approach to symbolism do little to assist with the fact that ‘The Leftovers’ is a vehicle running on the wispiest of fumes. In the immediate aftermath of Patti’s sp

The Minority Report follow-up takes place 10 years after the end of Precrime in D.C., when one of the three Precogs struggles to lead a "normal" human life, but remains haunted by visions of the future. He meets a detective haunted by her past who just may help him find a purpose to his gift. From Amblin Television, Paramount Television and 20th Century Fox Television, Godzilla's Max Borenstein will pen the script and executive produce. Amblin's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank will executive produce. The original sci-fi film was directed by Steven Spielberg — who executive produces Amblin's Falling Skies, Under the Dome, Extant, Red Band Society and more. The feature was loosely based on Philip K. Dick's short
