BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

June 2014 Movies on Our Radar

The thinnest month for films so far in 2014 is upon us - welcome to our June On the Radar Preview! May was a terrific month for movies: from X-Men: Day of Future Past to Godzilla , we were certainly treated to big, enjoyable, and successful tentpoles. And while June has a few possibilities, there's seemingly a vacuum of guaranteed winners - our list includes only four, and two of them are being released in the same week! In fact, June looks to be the thinnest month for film since we began to write these. And while something is sure to surprise us, the immediate outlook is pretty bleak. Our list includes mega-sized robots (again), a return of criminal justice tomfoolery, and perhaps the most anticipated animated film of the year. To be clear, our list includes only wide-release films: Edge of Tomorrow (June 6th) We love us some Tom Cruise. Emily Blunt as Black Widow? It almost happened. This futuristic version of Groundhog Day sees Cruise repeating the events of

A Million Ways to Die in the West Review: Gross-Out Humor Isn't Enough

The western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West makes us wish for a quick end. If you're Actor/Writer/Director Seth MacFarlane, your unique brand of comedy has brought you amazing successes ( Ted , Family Guy ) and some quick yanks of the comedic hook (2013 Oscars). For A Million Ways to Die in the West , MacFarlane this time turns the old west on its ear, hoping to make the difficulties of western life into a laugh-fest. Such a premise could make for a really funny movie. Unfortunately, it doesn't. Sheep farmer Albert Stark (MacFarlane) gripes about the dangers of living in the west - disease, native attacks, poverty, and senseless violence are a daily part of life, making him long for the big city life of San Francisco. He gripes about these difficulties to his best friend Edward (Giovanni Ribisi) and Edward's protitute girlfriend, Ruth (Sarah Silverman). Throughout the film, Ruth actively engages in sex with her clients while denying Edward his t

Raze Review: Super Violence Misses the Point

The female throwdown Raze isn't predictable, but its execution is highly suspect. Set in a mix of 70's women's prison action piece and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome , Raze tells the story of 50 kidnapped women who set against each other in a series of one-one-one brawls to the death. At the top of that heap lies the soldier Sabrina (Zoe Bell), whose rap sheet includes escaping a POW camp. She and the other women - including the psychopath Phoebe (Rebecca Marshall) - must kill one another or risk seeing their family die a horrific assassination. The event is organized by a husband and wife team (Doug Jones and Sherilyn Fenn) whose supposedly ancient group has been culling women since forever. As Zoe and Phoebe head towards a violent showdown, a new player enters the field that represents Sabrina's last hope for escape. Director Josh Waller miscasts several leads and gets only B-grade acting from those who stick around. What's more, Waller wastes his best

Potential Directors For Ant-Man Film

Marvel Studios is moving fast to make good on its promise to keep its July 17, 2015, release date for Ant-Man . Sources say Rawson Marshall Thurber, Adam McKay and Ruben Fleischer are among a group of directors that are meeting with the studio to replace Edgar Wright , who abruptly exited the long-gestating project last week over creative differences. The shortlisting of this trio offers a glimpse into the mind-set of Marvel president Kevin Feige as he looks to fill the hole left by Wright, a favorite among the fanboy community. Thurber (We're the Millers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) and McKay (the Anchorman movies) are known for their bawdy comedies. Fleischer , whose credits include Zombieland and Gangster Squad, has moved deftly between genres with comedic elements. Wright, a Brit with a more quirky sensibility, clashed with Marvel over the tone of the film. McKay would appear to have an edge given that he has worked with Ant-Man star Paul Rudd before, on the A
