He'll play the crime-fighting hero at the center of Netflix's 13-episode drama series. Marvel and Netflix's Daredevil has found its leading man: Boardwalk Empire alum Charlie Cox . Sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that Cox will star as Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer by day and crime-fighting hero by night in the 13-episode drama. Cox becomes the first person cast in the drama series based on the Marvel Entertainment comics of the same name. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lost alum Drew Goddard was set to serve as showrunner on the series. After signing on to Sony's Spider-Man spinoff Sinister Six, Goddard was replaced over the holiday weekend by Spartacus (and Buffy) alum Steven S. DeKnight, who will now oversee the show. Goddard will remain on as an exec producer and serve as a consultant on the drama. Marvel and Netflix declined comment on Cox's casting. Official confirmation is expected to come shortly. Fresh off the success of Godzilla , filmmaker Gareth Edwards has lined up his next project, something set in a galaxy far, far away. Edwards is attached to direct one of the Star Wars spinoff films, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Gary Whitta (Book of Eli) is writing the script for the movie, which has a release date set for December 16, 2016, said Disney and Lucasfilm in a statement later posted on the official Star Wars website. Due to the high level of secrecy surrounding the Star Wars development process, it is unclear which spinoff Edwards will tackle. Speculation has focused on characters such as bounty hunter Boba Fett and Jedi master Yoda as those who might be getting their own movies. Jack is the engine that makes the whole thing run, but every once in awhile, a plot development will force the writers to take Jack out of the game, as with his current military apprehension. It never lasts more than an hour, but it invariably means that the hour in question won’t be one for the time capsule. “3:00 PM – 4:00 PM” is an episode calibrated toward inching the plot forward and bringing other characters up to speed. It’s housekeeping, plain and simple, but it’s not the worst instance of ‘24’ stopping to line up its ducks.
