TV Review: 24: Live Another Day “1:00 PM to 2:00 PM”

TV Review: 24: Live Another Day “1:00 PM to 2:00 PM” By: Brandon Wolfe “ 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM ” (perhaps confusingly, a title eight other ‘24’ episodes bear) starts out reminding us what ‘24’ does so well before going on to remind us of the things ‘24’ frequently did to hurt us, or at least make us very sleepy. The show, even at its worst, was always masterful at building tension, even if the things happening onscreen weren’t technically of grave consequence to us, and the entire first act involves Jack’s breathless pursuit of comely, improbably named terrorist Simone Al-Harazi from a subway to a train station. Only the most attentive viewers probably even remember from last week the reasons why Jack is pursuing Al-Harazi, but when ‘24’ starts using its split-screens and Jack is sprinting and scowling his head off, you often find yourself gripping your armrest in spite of yourself. The entire sequence lasts almost 15 minutes, before Jack loses Al-Harazi because Chloe was asleep at the

Batmobile Tease By Zack Snyder (UPDATE)

Though shooting has been underway for a while now on the yet-to-be-titled, Batman-filled follow-up to Man Of Steel , Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. have been careful not to let too much slip. Now, though, it appears the wraps are coming off both figuratively and literally, as the director has teased a look at the film’s Batmobile AND given us a surprise. Tweeting the image via his official account  on Monday, Snyder showed off a look at the vehicle still mostly covered in a dingy, disused factory. It’s tough to tell from this initial peek, but the shape appears to be favoring the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher era vehicle with a hint of the Tumbler from Christopher Nolan’s Bat-universe. On Tuesday, Snyder revealed this image, which includes a surprise...The Dark Knight himself.  Let's start with the Batmobile: it's clear that Snyder is pulling elements from all the Batman films, including Tim Burton's series with Michael Keaton.  The cockpit-style door looks almost i

TV Review: Rosemary’s Baby – Part 1

TV Review: Rosemary’s Baby – Part 1 By: Brandon Wolfe Remakes of classic horror films are always a dicey game. Stick too close to the source material and the whole endeavor feels pointless, but stray too far and you rankle purists, most of whom probably already have it out for you in the first place. For there is a reason these films are held in such high regard and the hubris required for someone to decide that there is room for improvement almost feels a little offensive, if not like outright heresy. It’s a nearly impossible needle to thread successfully. Zack Snyder’s remake of ‘ Dawn of the Dead ’ is the only example that immediately springs to mind as an attempt that has worked. That film borrowed just the core premise of people holing up in a mall from zombies outside, but otherwise went its own way, finding its own unique energy. Rare is the horror remake that bothers to go off-book like that and carve out its own identity. Most are content to regurgitate what we’ve already

TV Recap: Game Of Thrones "The Laws of Gods & Men" By: Sue Stannis and Davos leave by boat, heading to their last chance. They’ve been their since mid-day. They are finally welcomed to the Iron Bank. Stannis is welcomed, and Davos says that he is the King of Westeros, but he is not the one that sits on the throne. The Iron Bank has been the one that has been funding the Lannisters, but Stannis thinks that as his bloodline is the rightful one, his should be the one being backed by the bank. But, Stannis has few backers, and even fewer supplies. Although he may have a legitimate claim, in theory, it is not a gamble the bank is willing to back. The banker bids them good day, and even warns that Braavos is not a safe place for Davos. Davos isn’t ready to walk away. Tywin is the power in King’s Landing, and he is too old to remain in power for long. Stannis is the one true king, and when the Lannisters fall, and they will soon fall, he is the best bet for the bank to ge

JCVD's Kickboxer To Be Remade With Dave Bautista & Georges St-Pierre

Buried in news about a remake of one of Jean-Claude Van Damme ’s films, Bloodsport last July was word that another of his early martial arts canon, Kickboxer would be headed into the rework ring. As the film’s backers head to Cannes in the hopes of drumming up international sales, Dave Bautista and Georges St-Pierre have been announced as part of the cast. Clearly the new Kickboxer team – which includes Tai Chi Hero director Stephen Fung – has been looking to Marvel to find its supporting fight talent, as Bautista is set to play Drax The Destroyer in the studio’s Guardians Of The Galaxy later this year and St-Pierre was one of the villains in Captain America: The Winter Soldier back in March. Both men have unimpeachable wrestling and mixed martial arts backgrounds, so we can certainly see why they’d be recruited to feature alongside the main man, stunt man and fighter Alain Moussi, who will make his acting debut with the movie. Moussi is a veteran of stunt duties on films su
