Top Gun 3D Blu-ray Review

Top Gun 3D Blu-ray Review By: MattIn RC Top Gun 3D   is impressive, even if the film itself has its issues. As a moviegoer who refuses to accept failure from Hollywood,  Top Gun  has remained on my shelf, signifying nothing less than total respect for it.  In my opinion,  Top Gun represented the beginning of modern action/war cinema, setting the standards for authenticity and cooperation by our armed forces to give us a glimpse inside their world.  It was a ridiculously simple formula: add great one-liners, mix in some top-shelf action sequences and a rock-themed soundtrack, with a dark and elusive central character, and you have the long-time standard for the Military-Themed-DramAction.  The film launched 80's heartthrob Tom Cruise ( Mission Impossible  series) into the stratosphere, making him one of the biggest box office draws during that time.   Top Gun  solidified a career that's now spanned three decades, outdistancing competitors Schwarzenegger and Stallo

2013 Big Movie Questions

Five Big Movie Questions for 2013 By: Matt Cummings With the 2013 movie season already in full swing, we've been thinking about some early answers to several burning questions: Will audiences stand in line to see Arnold and Stallone?   It appears that the answer is NO.  Neither the awful  The Last Stand  nor the decent  Bullet to the Head   reached audiences, pulling in less money combined than the Estrogen Fest  Safe Haven .   That's a bad sign for the duo, who separately used to command the box office.  If their fall pair-up  The Tomb  also fails to attract success, it could be the last hurrah for these aging heroes who might not know when to hang it up.  Will Winter 2013 produce the same limited amount of quality films, just as it has since....forever?   Luckily, YES.  The season has already given us more high-quality efforts than in the last three Winters COMBINED.   Gangster Squad   and  Snitch   are top shelf ,  Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters   and  Beautif

Oscar Round-Up

Oscar Wrap-Up By: MattInRC In an evening that featured boobs, Anne Hathaway's nipples, and songs about losers, the 85th Academy Awards are finally done.  Luckily, there was some hardware handed out honoring a few movies as well.  Here's our thoughts on the winners, losers, and memorable moments: Biggest Disappointments: There were many, so let's start with Supporting Actor and Lead Actress.   Jones and Chastain being snubbed for Waltz and Lawrence is like saying you prefer a second-string hitter instead of Babe Ruth.  The brilliant Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty were bolstered by incredible performances, yet neither was recognized by the Academy, with both films receiving a total of 3 awards among them.  True, both dealt with still-tender social issues, but why deny recognition of good performances by making second-rate selections?  If the Academy was trying to send a message about rising young talent in the 22-year-old Lawrence, they missed the point - true, a

Oscars 2013 Picks Are In. Do You Agree Or Disagree?

I want to thank MattInRC , April from Twilightish and of course Jorge from HiDefNinja in participating in this crazy idea Matt came up with. And I look forward to doing this again next year. I have kept me answers very simple due to the fact I haven't seen 3/4 of the films nominated (That's why I have  Matt ).  And that is where Matt, April and Jorge have stepped up their game and include their explications to their picks. So with out without further ado here are our picks for  Sunday's Oscars . Best Animated SJF: Wreck-it-Ralph Twilightish: Wreck-it-Ralph - While I don't believe that there were any EXCEPTIONAL movies in this category this year, I think this was the best out of the choices. Matt: Frankenweenie – While my favorite animated film of the year in Hotel Transylvania wasn’t even nominated, Frankenweenie is a really great film about boys and their love for pets. There’s some great voice work here as well and the stop motion is like a breath

SNITCH Review. The Rock's Best Performance

SNITCH Review  By: MattInRC  The surprisingly deep Snitch features The Rock's best performance as...not The Rock. Ready for a shocker? Dwayne Johnson is really good in Snitch, a powerful film about life in the drug trade. I know, it's Johnson ( aka WWE's The Rock ), but hear me out on this one. Johnson ( Fast Five ) plays John Matthews, owner of a successful construction company, whose estranged son Jason ( Rafi Gavron ) is arrested after accepting a package filled with drugs. He's the victim of an undercover operation, hoping to nail small-time dealers who will in turn cough up other names for arrest. But Jason is neither willing to cooperate, nor turn in his drug-dealing friends, not because he's a hardened dealer, but because his morals won't allow him to do so. Matthews and his ex-wife Sylvie ( Melina Kanakaredes ) don't understand his defiance, but are more worried about his safety in prison, which forces Matthews into action. He u
