Marking their third project together, LAIKA and Focus Features , the two companies behind the current Academy Award-nominated animated feature ParaNorman , announced today that LAIKA has begun production on The Boxtrolls . The new movie will be released nationwide by Focus on October 17th, 2014. Focus CEO James Schamus and LAIKA President & CEO Travis Knight made the announcement today. As on the previous animation collaborations ParaNorman and Coraline , Focus will hold worldwide distribution rights to The Boxtrolls , and Universal Pictures International will release the movie overseas (with eOne Distribution handling Canada). We’re days away from the launch of the latest Die Hard film – A Good Day To Die Hard – but it would seem Bruce Willis is already open to slipping his holster back on again. Talking to the BBC’s One Show , the McClane man was asked by hosts Matt Baker and Alex Jones if we could expect a sixth entry. And he said… wait for it… “Yes.” Now, despite the fact that Bruce is the Die Hard icon, we’re all going to have to wait and see how A Good Day To Die Hard , in which the NYPD’s grumpiest cop heads to Russia to track down seemingly wayward son Jack ( Jai Courtney ), only to get mixed up in spy shenanigans, terrorist threats and one potentially explosive situation, performs at the box office. Plus, while 20th Century Fox is clearly happy to keep the franchise ticking over, it’s likely too early to infer that anything will actually happen. Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper are starring in the pic, which is being directed by Scott Waugh and is based on the Electronic Arts video game. The story tells of a local street-racer ( Paul ) who partners with a rich and arrogant business associate ( Cooper ), only to find himself framed by his colleague and sent to prison. After his stint in the joint, he joins a New York-to-Los Angeles race to get revenge. But when the ex-partner learns of the scheme, he puts a massive bounty on the racer’s head, forcing him to run a cross-country gauntlet of illegal racers in all manner of supercharged vehicles. Yesterday, The Walt Disney Co. unveiled plans to make a number of spin-off movies set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away — in addition to the post-Return of the Jedi trilogy that had already been announced. Entertainment Weekly has learned details on two of the spin-off projects: A young Han Solo saga, focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story, and a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum.  Several sources close to the projects confirmed this was the direction the development was taking, although each cautioned it’s still very early in the process and, well, the deal could always be altered futher. Lucasfilm and Disney declined to comment on the information.
