Rise of the Guardians Review. Does It Rekindle Our Love For The Holidays?

Rise of the Guardians Review By: MattInRC Does Rise of the Guardians rekindle our childhood love for the holidays? Read on to find out. As Fall begins its blustery journey, earnestly pushing out Summer in preparation for the silent darkness of Winter, Rise of the Guardians seeks to get us into the holiday mood with an enjoyable and solid animated effort. Jack Frost (voiced by Chris Pine ) is a 300-year-old troublemaker with no memory of his previous life, except that the silent Man in the Moon somehow played a role in his creation. Jack lives for the moment, encouraging cold temperatures and orchestrating playful snow fights between the kids, even as yet another Spring takes its foothold. Although his origin remains a mystery, he's sure of one thing: children cannot see him due to their lack of believing. They think the Snow Days and the yearly onslaught of Winter are due to natural, not human forces, representing the greatest disrespect by failing to give him the

Lenny Kravitz To Channel Marvin Gaye

There was a time when Lenny Kravitz’s only connection to movies was when his songs appearing on the soundtrack. But, thanks to a small role in Precious , playing Cinna in The Hunger Games (a part he’ll reprise in Catching Fire ), and Lee Daniels' upcoming The Butler , he’s now making strides on screen. And according to the Evening Standard, he’s now director Julien Temple’s choice to play Marvin Gaye in a new film. The movie, which has been in development for a while now (and has faced down competition from Cameron Crowe’s planned biopic) is set near the end of the singer’s life. With his glory days seemingly behind him, Gaye had fled to London under investigation for tax evasion and deep into drug and alcohol addiction. Music promoter Freddy Couseart took him to his flat in Belgium and helped him pull out of the tailspin. The result was his first post-Motown album, Midnight Love, which featured the now iconic single Sexual Healing. Temple has been getting the financing

Joe Carnahan All In For Mark Millar's Nemesis

Earlier this week, Mark Millar revealed that work was still ongoing with the big screen adaptation of his and Steve McNiven's Nemesis , and the wriiter has now confirmed (via the Millarworld Forums ) that Joe Carnahan will indeed direct and write the screenplay alongside his brother Matthew. The former was recently in the running to helm a 1970s set Daredevil movie for Fox, but issues with the rights now means that that will not be happening. With any luck, that bad news for fans of the "Man Without Fear" will be good news for fans of Nemesis. As you can see from the comments below, there's currently no word on casting, although it definitely sounds as if we should expect to see Liam Neeson as Det. Blake Morrow if talks end up working out. "Shot straight from a wedding in Manchester last week to the City of Angels and plunged straight into some studio biz on the Nemesis movie. Mighty Joe Carnahan is directing (from a script by he and his brother Matthew)

Marisa Tomei Joins Grant In A Romantic Film

Now that Hugh Grant and writer/director Marc Lawrence have officially decided to join forces for what will be their fourth romantic-comedy collaboration, they’re starting to lock down actors for other roles in the new, as-yet-untitled movie. According to The Wrap , Marisa Tomei is in negotiations to sign on. The film will focus on Ray Michaels ( Grant ), a charming, handsome Englishman who is the toast of Hollywood in the late 1980s. A successful screenwriter, he has Tinseltown at his feet after winning an Oscar for Best Screenplay. But the fickle finger of fortune decides to mess with him, and 15 years later, he’s creatively washed-up, flat broke and utterly unemployed. Needing to make money, he takes the only job he can dig up, teaching writing at a small college on the East coast. Figuring it’ll be a chance to use whatever fleeting fame he has to impress college girls, he doesn’t bet on finding romance with a single mother (Tomei) who has gone back to school. Please Leav

Paranormal Activity 5 Coming In 2013

The once-a-year announcement continues to be entirely unsurprising, but here it is anyway... Following the success of this year's Paranormal Activity 4 , Halloween 2013 will see Paranormal Activity 5 making sudden loud noises in your local multiplex. There are no details yet, other than the release date of October 25, so it's unclear if the directors of the last two installments, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (who also made the excellent Catfish) will be returning for a third time. Their two Paranormals introduced some new story threads that are still dangling, however, so it may be that they want to stay for at least one more stint to tie those up. Paranormals 2 and 3 were both prequels, but 4 finally got into the what-happened-next territory of Katie and Hunter's lives after their disappearance. The first film seemed to suggest that the paranormal entity was some sort of stalker poltergeist that was in love with Katie, but that's been lost and tweaked along

New Jack The Giant Slayer

Wow… It hardly seems possible that it’s nearly been a year since the last Jack The Giant Slayer trailer. Back then, it was called Jack The Giant Killer and set to arrive in June of this year. Take a look at some new footage in the promo above, or thunder over to Apple’s kingdom to see it in true HD . For this latest trailer, we get more details on the storyline, including how young farmhand Jack ( Nicholas Hoult ) meets the brave princess Isabelle ( Eleanor Tomlinson ) and together they get mixed up in a big giant adventure(literally, since it involves giants). The real villain here is – spoiler alert from the trailer – Stanley Tucci’s Lord Roderick, who is manipulating things from behind the scenes and manufactures Isabelle’s abduction so as to prompt a rescue mission by Jack and knight Elmont ( Ewan McGregor ), which in turn sparks an invasion of the human world by the big fellas. Director Bryan Singer has assembled a cast that includes Ian McShane, Warwick Davis, Eddie Ma

Have Writers Been Hired For Episode 8 And 9?

Before we go any further with this, do bear in mind that a huge siren, like the collision warning on a Star Destroyer, is blaring in the back of our minds. Which signals, of course, that this is strictly a Rumour Alert. But Deadline’s sources have heard that franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan and Sherlock Holmes writer Simon Kinberg are in contention to script the second and third films in the planned new Star Wars trilogy. Naturally, Disney isn’t commenting on the speculation, but if it does turn out to be true, it could be very good news. That's particularly so in Kasdan’s case, since this is the man who co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi - not to mention his work on Raiders Of The Lost Ark . Having Kasdan back as a Star Wars writer would surely lead to something special. As for Kinberg , he has proven big film chops and knows how to make set pieces work. He’s most recently written X-Men: First Class sequel Days Of Future Past , which Bryan Singer is

Silver Linings Playbook Review. Is It An Oscar Contender, Or A Playoff Pretender

Silver Linings Playbook Review By: MattInRC Is Silver Linings Playbook an Oscar contender, or a playoff pretender? The answer is, probably maybe. To be merely good in Hollywood these days seems good enough when the weekly box office results are announced. While some films deserve their status (see Skyfall, Lincoln, and The Avengers), others are simply head scratches. Still others are given such pre-release Oscar buzz that no manner of acting can match expectations. Such is the predicament for Silver Linings Playbook, which seeks to unravel the world of mental illness and one man's journey to escape it. But much like its venerated Philadelphia Eagles which parallels the tale, Linings is filled with promise but short on results and prone to unevenness. Having been recently released from a mental hospital after a violent breakdown involving his cheating wife Nikki, Pat Solitano ( Bradley Cooper , Limitless) moves back into his parents' house in suburban Phil
