Several filmmakers, including, most notably Joe Carnahan , have attempted to capture the story of Colombian cocaine trafficker Pablo Escobar on celluloid. But few have gotten their projects through development. Now actor-director Andrea di Stefano is set to get shooting, and has scored Benicio del Toro to play the lead in Paradise Lost . The director also wrote the script, which takes an original approach to portraying the man. It’ll focus on Nick, a young surfer who goes to visit his brother in Colombia and falls for a local girl called Maria. But there’s a problem with Maria, and one Nick can’t easily solve – her uncle is Pablo Escobar . And so the film is described more in the vein of The Last King Of Scotland : it’s not a direct biopic of Escobar, but will instead weave the young lovers’ story around Escobar’s actions. Tom Hardy is attached to star in Ubisoft’s movie based on the company’s video game Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell . Eric Singer, who wrote the Black List script American Bullshit, is writing the Splinter Cell script. (Bullshit has David O. Maria Bello will act as the female lead in Dimension Films’ untitled thriller being produced by James Wan.   Wan is the helmer who kicked off the Saw franchise and also directed the horror hit Insidious. He is producing the project with Lee Clay. Will Canon is directing the thriller, which is eyeing a shoot beginning January 2013 in Baton Rouge. The film centers on a detective and a police psychologist ( Bello ) who are investigating the massacre of five college kids in a decrepit home and must deal with a suspect, a survivor of the killing, who explains the group was amateur ghost-hunters and that it was the house that is to blame. Cameron Diaz is attached to star in the female revenge comedy “ The Other Woman ” for Fox, a representative for the actress told TheWrap . The film, with a script by Melissa Stack, is about a woman who finds out she is the other woman in a love triangle. She meets up with the wife in order to conspire and get revenge against the husband. Kristen Wiig is also under consideration for a role in the film, the representative for Diaz said. The high-concept story is in the vein of "The First Wives Club," but with a younger skew. Julie Yorn is producing through her LBI Prods. banner, while Daria Cercek will oversee the project for the studio. Stack ("I Want to F--- Your Sister") is a Black List alumni.
