Matthew Vaughn has decided not to direct the sequel to 20th Century Fox‘s hit spinoff X-Men: First Class . Ready for the next shocker? Atop the studio’s replacement short list is Bryan Singer, who launched the X-Men feature franchise with the first two superb films and who has been a guiding influence in this spinoff by writing the treatment and producing. If this works out, Singer and Vaughn would essentially be switching roles. Vaughn, who wrote the treatment for the sequel for X-Men: Days Of Future Past that was scripted by Simon Kinberg, would step back to produce the film with Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner. Vaughn will do another film for Fox, and I’m hearing it will be the drama Secret Service , an adaptation of the Mark Millar comic book series that Vaughn has been working on with the author. Fox already has the script for X-Men: Days Of Future Past , and set to return is Fox’s First Class cast that includes Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence . F

Relativity Gets Animated With Reel FX Companies Will Jointly Produce and Finance Upcoming Animated Comedy Turkeys . Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson star as lead voice talent in the film slated for 2014 release. Relativity Media and Reel FX, a movie studio based in Dallas and Santa Monica, announced today that they will jointly produce and finance the upcoming animated comedy Turkeys, slated for a 2014 release. The film is directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears A Who!) and stars the voice talent of Owen Wilson (Cars) and Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games). Turkeys will be distributed worldwide by Relativity.   Producing are Scott Mosier (Clerks), Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II), John Strauss (The Santa Claus 2) and David l. Stern (Hotel Transylvania). Luther will be playing in San Francisco at Slim's on Wednesday, November 7th with Smoking Popes.   Their debut full length, Let's Get You Somewhere Else, came out October 9th on Chunksaah and was recorded and produced by Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls. Philadelphia City Paper said "the band's debut albuma bounds with ebullience and wise-ass lyrics to go with a host of memorale melodies," while RCRD_LBL called the band's sound "buoyant". Although Luther are a young band, they've attracted some serious attention, being invited to tour with seminal bands such as Hot Water Music, The Smoking Popes, Braid and The Bouncing Souls several times! ABC's Joss Whedon pilot S.H.I.E.L.D . has added another agent to its ranks. ER alum Ming-Na has boarded the Marvel TV adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. From ABC Studios, the project is based on the long-running comic created by Jack Kirby and revolves around the secret military law enforcement agency dubbed S.H.I.E.L.D., which stands for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate. Whedon is on board to co-pen the pilot alongside his brother Jed Whedon and Jed's wife Maurissa Tancharoen; the trio previously teamed on the three-part web series Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Avengers and Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Whedon will direct the pilot, should his schedule permit.11 Ming-Na will play Agent Melinda May, an top-notch pilot, weapons expert and soldier who is described as being soulful but damaged by her time spent in combat. We now welcome the full on, gore-soaked red band trailer for the remake of Evil Dead . Take a peek – if you dare. From the looks of this first proper glimpse, the movie, produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell and directed by Fede Alvarez, doesn’t hold back and doesn’t skimp on the horror. It’s also more of a reinvention than a remake, with a group of young ‘uns (including Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas and Lou Taylor Pucci) standing in for Campbell’s Ash as the unfortunates who head to a spooky cabin in the woods, discover the Necronomicon, read chunks and unleash terrible evil. Plus Raimi and Alvarez certainly appear to have put their cast through similar tribulations to the ones Campbell endured, tweaking elements here and there (the grabby trees seem even worse this time around).
