Thomas Jane's "Dirty Laundry" Is Online. Is It The Punisher?

Stick around it may start slow but in Burns in the end. Usually when people try to make short films featuring copyrighted characters and post the result on YouTube, they’re slapped with lawyer-penned warnings the minute they become popular enough to hit the radar of the property’s real owners. But what if you’re actor Thomas Jane , a man who has played the character in the past, and you’re doing it with your own studio ? We’ll find out soon enough, but the Punisher short Dirty Laundry is now online. Caution - it's extremely violent and sweary. But then, it is Frank Castle, after all... The Looper Comic-Con Recap

He might not have been a Hall H veteran such as Len Wiseman or Paul WS Anderson , but Rian Johnson had a few secret weapons up his sleeve when he arrived in San Diego to premiere some new footage from Looper. The footage was one big draw, and he also brought Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt to charm the crowd. The Looper footage was a slickly edited montage culled from footage already available in the trailers and some new material, including an extended look at Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s diner confrontation as the two sides of the “Looper”, Joe. Johnson’s film, which takes place in the near future, follows Joe, who works for an organized crime ring that exists even further into the space-time continuum. There, time travel was invented, but outlawed, and the mob uses it to send victims back to be dealt with in the most untraceable way possible. But then, as Gordon-Levitt explains in the footage, his bosses decided to close his loop, and send his older self (W

Django Unchained Comic-Con Recap

Despite his huge fan appeal, Quentin Tarantino has not graced the massive Hall H at Comic-Con before. But that changed today when the man known as QT brought some of his latest creation, Django Unchained , to the event Saturday morning. Arriving on stage at a thronged Hall H, Tarantino had rounded up Jamie Foxx (dressed for the occasion in hat and beard), Walton Goggins, Don Johnson, Christoph Waltz and Kerry Washington . Thanking fans for standing in line for so long, the director began by explaining that he’d had the film in his noggin for 13 years and had long wanted to do a Western. Foxx took the opportunity to address the movie’s more controversial racism / slavery aspects, saying, “We're grown up. We're big boys and big girls now. But you expect Quentin to blow the walls off it.” He also pointed to his own history, having grown up in Texas and being called the N word – explaining that it helped his understanding of the script, with the project having special rele

Man Of Steel Comic-Con Recap

Marvel might have brought Iron Man back to Comic-Con and revealed that it would be bringing the Guardians Of The Galaxy to screens, but that wasn’t the most famous superhero to land in Hall H: that would be Superman, who has returned with Man Of Steel . Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures wheeled out director Zack Snyder and current suit-occupant Henry Cavill to promote it. Snyder - who tellingly refused to confirm whether the villain is General Zod (despite the news long since being out and actor Michael Shannon having talked about playing him) – brought around three minutes of footage to show to an enthused crowd. If there was one thing the footage proved, it was that this has a different, more sombre tone than most screen versions of Supes and Clark Kent. The most interesting shot saw gun-toting army troops leading a handcuffed Superman down a corridor. Elsewhere in the footage, we were treated to narration from Russell Crowe’s Jor-El (choosing to stick with his typical v

Godzilla Poster Is Alive

But there was one, unannounced surprise arrival – Gareth Edwards, bringing a teaser for Godzilla . That teaser was simply stunning, starting off with a series of destroyed buildings in an empty, devastated city, with cars and wreckage everywhere. And then, in an incredibly bold move, Edwards shows his monster, panning up its scaly, spiny back as it turns to the camera and roars that classic Gojira roar. That Edwards was even working on a teaser was a huge revelation to all; that it would be so visually astounding an even bigger one. Edwards looked taken aback by the reaction to the trailer, which he's been working on for two years, and confessed that he was on the verge of tears. But his gambit worked - this has been the surprise hit of the Con, and there's no doubt that Godzilla is now high on people's most wanted lists. Edwards may show the monster in the teaser, but the new poster that has hit the web does not. Still, it's worth a look. . It’s a very simple

Pacific Rim Comic-Con Panel Recap

Godzilla wasn't the only gigantic, city-destroying monster to smash into Hall H at Comic-Con. The great Gullermo del Toro popped along with some footage from one of the biggest unknown quantities at the 'Con: Pacific Rim . And, it's safe to say, it's no longer an unknown quantity. This thing is going to be epic. A high-concept blockbuster that, unusually for a day dominated by Superman, Iron Man and The Hobbit , is an original property, Pacific Rim takes place in the future; a future where giant monsters have emerged from within a rift in the Pacific Rim and laid waste to humanity. The air is choked with ash. Cities are destroyed. Mankind is struggling for survival. Their only hope: Jaegers, pilots who bond telepathically with enormous, 25-storey robots that can take on the monsters at their own game. But it's a battle that they're on the verge of losing - can Charlie Hunnam's Raleigh Antrobus, Rinko Kikuchi's Mako Mori and Idris Elba's Stacker

The Hobbit Comic-Con Panel Recap

Not one to do things by halves, Peter Jackson arrived in San Diego with a fellowship of friends – Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Philippa Boyens and Andy Serkis, plus Elijah Wood , who happened to be at Comic-Con promoting Tron: Uprising – as well a whopping 12 and a half minutes of footage. (After the mixed reception to the film’s look at April’s CinemaCon, this time Jackson opted for 24 frames per second and 2D.) Though the sequences were mainly drawn from the first Hobbit movie, An Unexpected Journey, there were also plenty of snippets from Part 2. The reel opened with a fun scene at Bag End, with the 13 dwarves taking advantage of Bilbo’s hospitality while discussing plans to invade the Lonely Mountain and take back their long-lost gold. “There is no way into the mountain,” grumbles Balin (Ken Stott). Gandalf begs to differ, producing an ancient key that will open a hidden door and explaining that “the task I have in mind will require stealth and a great deal of

Captain America 2 & THOR 2 Titles Reviled

You may have even noted their titles on the calendar – Thor 2 and Captain America 2 , respectively. Well, get out the Tipp-Ex, walk up to your calendar, and replace those with, again respectively, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier . The move away from a simple numbered sequel, given that Marvel are hard at work on Iron Man 3, is certainly intriguing, and helps foster the idea that these movies are part of a richer, grander universe filled with continuing stories and not just numbered instalments. The Thor title change tallies with suggestions made recently to Empire by Feige, indicating that the sequel will explore the seedier side of Asgard, Thor 2 is now known as Thor: The Dark World. It certainly hints at a new direction for the character and the series; the first film had its melodramatic moments, but by and large it was a romp. It will be interesting to see Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder grappling with darkness from within and without. The ti
