The CW's Hunger Games -ish drama pilot has added an adviser. Sean Patrick Thomas , who co-starred opposite Julia Stiles in Save the Last Dance, has been cast in The Selection . The project is described as an epic romance set 300 years in the future in which a poor young woman is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads. Thomas will play Sylvan Santos, a close adviser to the current queen and an expert in royal etiquette who advises the participants in the competition. The actor, whose recent small-screen credits also include episodes of the CW's Ringer and Lifetime's Army Wives, joins Friday Night Lights alum Aimee Teegarden and 10 Things I Hate About You's Ethan Peck in the project. Teegarden play a poor young woman who competes become the next queen. For his part, Peck will play the handsome and regal Prince Maxon, whom the girls are competing to marry. Disney XD has snagged a new animated action comedy starring the beloved arcade game character in the tentatively titled series, Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins . The series is being eyed for a fall 2013 debut on the children's cable network. Based on the iconic brand, Pac-Man: The Adventure Begins will be executive produced by Avi Arad (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers) and Rick Ungar (X-Men: Evolution, Biker Mice From Mars). In a seven-figure preemptive deal, Sony Pictures is collaborating with Ryan Murphy on One Hit Wonders, a musical comedy pitch that will be written as a star vehicle for Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon, Cameron Diaz, Beyonce and Andy Samberg . Murphy is attached to direct, and he will write the script with his Glee cohorts Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. Murphy will produce with Paltrow (who has practically become a Glee cast member) and the latter makes her debut as a producer on this film. Murphy hopes to direct it after he completes The Normal Heart. Paltrow, Witherspoon and Diaz will play three singers who each scored a top hit song in the 1990s before watching their careers go down the drain. They decide to form a super group. Viacom's Paramount Pictures will release a SpongeBob SquarePants movie in late 2014 as it looks to kick its animation output into a higher gear, Viacom president and CEO Philippe Dauman said Tuesday. "We will be releasing a SpongeBob movie at the end of 2014, which will serve to start off or be one of our films that starts off our new animation effort," he told a Deutsche Bank media and telecom investor conference in Palm Beach, Fla. His appearance was webcast. Paramount announced the formation of its new animation unit last July with a target of one release starting in 2014. It has previously not mentioned a specific project. However, Paramount picked up rights to Penny Arcade's science fiction comic New Kid in June and is planning an adaptation of it.
