The hunt for the next Twilight or Hunger Games continues. Warner Bros has picked up the movie rights to The Scorpio Races , a young adult fantasy novel by Maggie Stiefvater for David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith’s KatzSmith Productions to produce. The book, released last week, involves mythological flesh-eating horses from Celtic lore, a scraggy island that hosts an annual race, a young horse trainer and a young woman (the first female to enter the competition) who eventually fall for each other. Stiefvater is the author of the best-selling Shiver trilogy , which are young adult novels revolving around werewolves and first love. The trilogy has more than 1.6 million copies in print in the US. KatzSmith’s deal is relatively new at Warners but it’s been quite active. Last month it set up the Jonathan Stokes spec Murders and Acquisitions, a Wall Street action comedy, and earlier in October picked up the rights to Alive in Necropolis, a detective story in the real-life cemet

Olivia Wilde and Steve Buscemi are in talks to join Burt Wonderstone , New Line’s magician comedy starring Steve Carell . Jim Carrey and James Gandolfini are already in negotiations to join the cast. The project is set in the world of rival Las Vegas magicians. Carell is a more traditional magic man who is dethroned by a hipper illusionist doing dangerous tricks and breaks up with his partner then must find a way to rediscover his love for magic. Carrey is playing the magician who represents the new face of magic while Gandolfini will be an owner of a casino. Wilde will play Carell’s love interest, who at first is his assistant but later works for Carrey.  Buscemi will play Carell’s longtime friend and partner who quits the act. The movie is scheduled to go before cameras in January. Veteran TV director Don Scardino is making his feature debut on the project, which is being produced by Chris Bender and J.C. The Indomina Group Picks Up Options For Two New “ Cabin Fever ” Films It was announced today that The Indomina Group, the fast-growing U.S. and Dominican Republic based producer and distributor of film, TV and trans-media content, and leading proponent of ‘fanboy’ cinema is resurrecting the popular “Cabin Fever” franchise and will produce and distribute at least two more feature films.
