The studio has set Henry Hobson to direct and John Scott 3 to adapt the murder mystery that was first published as a book in 1954. The director and writer are currently in pre-production on Maggie, a spec script that tracks the six-week metamorphosis of a 16-year-old girl into a zombie after she becomes infected and continues to live with her family. Trained at the Royal College of Art in London as a graphic designer, Hobson specializes in creating inventive title sequences for films that included Sherlock Holmes for Prologue Films. The scribe seems well suited to adapt Asimov’s visionary prose. When not writing scripts, Scott builds command systems for NASA’s flagship X-ray satellite. Last week, long-range paparazzi shots of the actor wearing ghostly white makeup, large sunglasses and a pulled down fedora made fans of the original 1966-71 supernatural soap opera bristle nervously, with complaints he looked simply too strange. Nevermind that he’s playing a 200-year-old vampire, which is strange enough. As you can see from this cast shot, Depp’s bloodsucking pater familias Barnabas Collins actually borrows heavily from the aged-little boy look of original Dark Shadows star Jonathan Frid — not that anyone would be happy to see this guy show up as your prom date either. Based on the hit novel by Stieg Larsson, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo stars Daniel Craig (Cowboys & Aliens) as journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who is enlisted by a wealthy family to solve the mystery of a young girl’s disappearance. Things are starting to move on The Terminator franchise, but a plan by rights owner Megan Ellison and Arnold Schwarzenegger to put the first of two pictures in production for the fourth quarter of 2012 has forced director Justin Lin to drop out. But borrowing the film’s signature phrase “ I’ll be back ,” Lin has left the door open to a return if Ellison and Schwarzenegger will wait until he completes the sixth installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise. The Terminator franchise has been under the radar since Ellison’s Annapurna Films spent over $20 million to buy film rights during the Cannes Film Festival, with Lin and Schwarzenegger attached. Lin wants to make the film but simply won’t be available, the same situation that prompted him to withdraw from Summit’s Highlander. Lin has been working closely with Schwarzenegger and Ellison to figure a way to end the James Cameron-hatched battle between humans and the cyborgs of Skynet. Patty Jenkins is the choice to direct Thor 2 for Marvel Studios. No negotiations have begun but Jenkins, who directed the 2003 Charlize Theron movie Monster and recently the pilot for AMC's acclaimed crime show The Killing , vied with several other directors for the gig, and now will become the first woman director in Marvel Studios' stable of helmers. Some outlets reported in early August that Brian Kirk, a director behind many Game of Thrones episodes, was in early negotiations to direct but those reports were wrong as Kirk never got past the meeting stage. Kenneth Branagh directed the first Thor movie, which has grossed $448.5 millions worldwide. Creative differences, especially a difficult post-production process, weighed in Branagh’s decision not to return to the director’s chair. Ghostbusters will be hitting theaters for a limited run in October.  The film will be screened on  Oct 13th, Oct 20th, and Oct. 27th. Check local listings for showtimes. This is going to be a special screening for myself and my daughter.  I remember going to see this film when I was my daughters age (8)  and now I get the chance to take her to see one of my all-time favorite films on the big screen. Truly special.
