After a long search, Simon West   is the choice to direct The Expendables 2 , the sequel to the 2010 smash hit action film. West, who most recently directed the remake of The Mechanic with Jason Statham and Ben Foster , also directed Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and The General's Daughter . Production begins in the summer. The sequel is expected to have back an original cast that includes Sylvester Stallone, Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and Jet Li . Ben 10 , if you've missed it so far, is a hugely successful Cartoon Network series that's been running in various incarnations since 2005. It's about a boy, Ben Tennyson, who comes into posession of a watch-like device that allows him to transform into various superpowered aliens (ten of them... but not all at once). Russell Crowe is negotiations to play the Kryptonian father of Superman in Man of Steel , the Zack Snyder-directed relaunch of Warners and Legendary’s Superman franchise. The casting of heavyweight Crowe in the role has a ring of synchronicity to it as it harkens back to the casting of heavyweight Marlon Brando in Warner's 1978 Superman movie. Brando was famously paid $3.7 million dollars in the mid-1970s for the part that amounted to 15 minutes of screen timea and two weeks' worth of work. Details of how large the role (a scientist who forsees the destruction of his planet and squires his infant son into an escape rocket bound for Earth) is in Man of Steel are not being revealed.
