Akira , the English-language, live-action take on the landmark anime and manga property, is zeroing in on its star, and it just might be Keanu Reeves . Warner Bros. has been having a tough time finding the two leads of the movie, to be directed by Albert Hughes. In the script, the action moves from Neon-Tokyo to New Manhattan, where a biker gang leader tries to save his best friend from a medical experiment that threatens to unleash destructive powers. Actors ranging from James Franco and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Robert Pattinson and Michael Fassbender have circled the project in some form or fashion as the studio sought to find an A-list lead. Now comes word that Reeves has held talks with the studio, with whom he already made the massively successful Matrix movies, for the part of Kaneda, the gang leader. The wrestling company partners with Pathe UK to co-finance and distribute the Ryuhei Kitamura-directed project starring “ Three Musketeers ” star Luke Evans . Pathe UK and WWE Studios are partnering to co-finance and distribute No One Lives , a horror movie starring Luke Evans, who’ll be seen in the upcoming The Immortals and The Three Musketeers . Ryuhei Kitamura, who directed the 2008 cult film The Midnight Meat Train, will direct the film from a screenplay by David Cohen. The plot revolves around a criminal gang who take a young couple hostage and take them to an abandoned house where the tables are turned on them. The producers are Elton Brand and Harry Knapp for Milk & Media and Kami Naghdi for Constance Media. Principal photography is scheduled to start June 13 in New Orleans. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is heading back to the big screen, this time in 3D. John Luessenhop is in talks to direct the Lionsgate project, which is being produced by Carl Mazzocone. Production is slated to begin in June. The movie will be a joint Lionsgate and Nu Image production, with Lionsgate distributing the movie in the U.S. and Nu Image selling international rights at Cannes. Carl Mazzocone is producing the movie, which hopes to launch a new franchise featuring Leatherface and his family of cannibals. Mazzocone was production president of horror house Twisted Pictures before becoming an independent producer; he pursued the rights to the property and came away with a deal to make up to six movies. The original Chainsaw is considered a landmark horror movie. Directed by Tobe Hooper, the 1974 pic introduced the chainsaw wielding cannibal known as Leatherface to audiences.
