British helmer Scott Mann has signed on to direct a remake of Japanese pic " Seven Samurai ," which is being produced by the Weinstein Co. and Japan's Kurosawa Prods. Pic, which has an estimated budget of $60 million, will be a contempo interpretation of the 1954 original. It centers on a town in Northern Thailand that recruits seven paramilitary contractors from around the globe to defend it from an imminent attack. Mann, who most recently helmed Robert Carlyle and Ving Rhames starrer " The Tournament " -- which gained cult status on both sides of the pond -- will help TWC develop the screenplay, which they hope to shoot later this year. When I first saw a preview of the show at Comic-Con 2009, I just knew this show was going to be big, but 20th Century Fox TV and film divisions have partnered to produce GLEE LIVE! 3D! , a feature film based on the upcoming Glee Live! In Concert! North American tour. Never thought this would happen. The studio plans to release the film for a two-week engagement starting Aug. 12. Gleeks who were unable to get tickets will be able to catch the concert in 3D. The tour starred 14 members of the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning TV show, and the film will also feature behind-the-scenes moments. The feature will be directed by Fame helmer Kevin Tancharoen. I got some exciting news in my email today, I received the press release that  Focus Features  and  LAIKA are reteaming again for two more films.   An interesting thing about  LAIKA is it is fueled by the vision of its owner, NIKE Co-Founder and Chairman Phil Knight . We all learn something new everyday. First up is  ParaNorman,  In the comedy thriller, a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Summit Entertainment has set Scott Speer to direct the fourth installment of the Step Up franchise. Like the last one, Step Up 4 will be done in 3D. The new film will be set in the backdrop of Miami. Speer is replacing Wade Robson, who dropped out for personal reasons that would have kept him from making the planned summer start date. The script's being written by Jenny Mayer and produced by Offspring Entertainment's Jennifer Gibgot and Adam Shankman, along with Summit's Patrick Wachsberger and Erik Feig. Jon Chu, who directed the last two Step Up installments, will be exec producer. Speer is a music video/commercials director who has helmed vids for Jordin Sparks, Will.I.Am, Jason Derulo and Orianthi Lacey, and he also collaborated with Chu on the TV episodes The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. Anna Faris is in negotiations to play the female lead in The Dictator , the new comedy Sacha Baron Cohen is doing for Paramount. Larry Charles , who directed Borat, is back in the helming saddle for the Paramount movie, which has been described as "the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed." Cohen is said to play dual roles of a goat herder and a deposed foreign ruler who gets lost in the U.S. Ben Kingsley and Jason Mantzoukas are also in the movie, playing fellows from the Middle East. Faris will play the owner of a Whole Foods-style store in New York. The movie is being done in a similar manner as Borat in the sense that Cohen and his team are looking for people with very strong improvisational skills.
