Mark Hamill To Direct "The Black Pearl"

Mark Hamill To Direct "The Black Pearl" Mark Hamill (Yes, Luke Skywalker)  is directing a bigscreen adaptation of his comicbook miniseries " The Black Pearl " through new production and finance outfit Berkeley Square Films. Project was originally penned for the big screen 14 years ago but then turned into a comicbook. The $7 million live-action pic is adapted by Hamill and "The Fighter's" Paul Tamasy and writing partner Eric Johnson. Hamill said the comic, which was published by Dark Horse Comics in 1996 and penned by Hamill and Johnson, is a "dark, edgy thriller" that the company hopes will receive an R rating. Hamill admits he's been "obsessed with comicbooks" his entire life -- his directorial debut was docu "Comic Book: The Movie" and he has provided voiceovers for comic-based programs, including the Joker in "Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker." "We started getting interest from some pre

Terrence Howard To Play Marvin Gaye In Upcoming Film

Terrence Howard To Play Marvin Gaye In Upcoming Film Terrence Howard is in talks to star in a biopic about the late and great Marvin Gaye, the film has been in the works for the last three and half years according to director Cameron Crowe. The starring role was offered to Will Smith but he turned it down. The film is supported by Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr and they have secured all the rights to Marvin's music. Howard, of course, is a singer himself. Marvin Gaye was one of the influences on his debut album Shine Through It. “Nothing’s been signed on paper yet,” Howard tells me. “Everybody who loves music will hate me if I get this one wrong.” For those of you for some reason not familiar with Marvin Gaye heres a little summary of who he is and what he accomplished. Alvin Sargent To Lend A Hand To Spider-Man Reboot

Alvin Sargent To Lend A Hand To Spider-Man Reboot The veteran screenwriter (and repeat Spidey scribe) has been brought on board to fine-tune Columbia’s "Spider-Man" reboot being directed by Marc Webb. The studio is working off a script by Jamie Vanderbilt, who wrote “Zodiac” and a draft of “Spider-Man 4” before the studio scrapped its plans for the sequel to re-start the series. Sargent is doing a production polish as the studio runs with eight legs toward a planned shoot later this year. Sargent, 83, is practically part of the Peter Parker family, having worked on every single “Spider-Man” movie. The acclaimed writer of hefty dramas like 1980s “Ordinary People” and 1973’s “Paper Moon" has become the studio’s go-to guy for punching up weighty scenes. The new “Spider-Man” is rumored to be more emotionally anchored and realistic than the previous movies. Word is that Peter Parker will be a 17-year-old high school kid struggling with shifting hormones and an outsider s

Wachowski Brother's Shopping Secret ‘Hard R Lesbian’ Sci-Fi

Wachowski Brother's Shopping Secret ‘Hard R Lesbian’ Sci-Fi Little has been heard from The Matrix team of Larry and Andy Wachowski since 2008's Speed Racer crashed. I'm told they are circulating a new script that brings them back to terrain they covered in 1996's Bound, a heist film with a lesbian romance. This one's a drama that focuses on a "hard R" homosexual relationship between a U.S. soldier and an Iraqi. It's a cinema verite-style treatment that begins in the near future and then spans back over years that include the current war in Iraq. I've heard the siblings completed the script, want to direct it next, and that it is out to financiers. It sounds far afield of their trademark stuff, but then again, The Matrix seemed pretty far out when the siblings first pitched it. Will furnish more info when I get it. Bound is a 1996 neo-noir crime thriller film directed by the Wachowski brothers. It is about a woman (Jennifer Tilly) who longs t

NBC Has Cancelled "Heroes"

NBC Has Cancelled "Heroes" The network seriously mulled bringing back "Heroes" for a shortened final season to wrap up the serialized show. In the end, given the fairly high cost of the drama, the show's consistently declining ratings and the number of new hour-longs coming to NBC next season, the network decided the UMS-produced series wasn't worth an additional season. Sources are still leaving the door open to conclude the show with a special or movie, but tabling that verdict until after upfronts. The show has long had a rocky relationship with its fans. Out of the gate, "Heroes" was a big hit for the network -- an ethnically diverse big-concept ensemble that performed well overseas. It was NBC's "Lost." But the show's writers struggled to keep the show's twisting narrative on track. Characters were killed off and resurrected with regularity. Narrative threads were started, then abandoned. Unlike "Lost," t
