BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

TV Review: Scream "Pilot"

TV adaptation is dead on arrival. Review by Brandon Wolfe Scream becoming a TV show at this point in the game is very odd, at least on MTV. Sure, we live in a culture that specializes in grave-robbing the past, unearthing musty old franchises to cash in on whatever residual name recognition can be extracted from their withering bones. But Scream is a property that has little, if any, familiarity to MTV’s tween target audience, many of whom (like some members of this show’s cast) were yet to be born when ol’ Ghostface went on his first rampage. If Scream were to be dusted off for a cinematic reboot, it would be difficult to feign surprise (other than that there remained any interest in something like that so soon after 2011’s Scream 4 came and went unnoticed), but a television series served up to an audience who wouldn’t know Gale Weathers if she backed over them with her news van seems peculiar. Perhaps MTV felt emboldened from successfully repackaging the even mustier Teen Wolf

Rooney Mara Lands The Lead Role In "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"

Rooney Mara Lands The Lead Role In "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" Ending one of the most drawn out and closely watched casting searches for an actress in years, Sony Pictures Entertainment and director David Fincher have chosen Rooney Mara to play Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo , the film that begins shooting this fall in Sweden, with Daniel Craig starring. The film will be released December 21, 2011. Rooney was considered Fincher's first choice in the process: the director had just helmed her in The Social Network . Closing a deal will amount to a formality, because Mara essentially agreed to terms when she and other young actresses signed on to tests that Fincher and producer Scott Rudin have conducted over the past several weeks. Her deal includes an option for two sequels that will cover The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest , the second and third books in the Millennium Trilogy by the late author

80's Classic THRASHIN’ Starrring JOSH BROLIN Coming To Blu-ray In June

One of the movies I grew up on is finally making it's way to Blu-ray THRASHIN’. L.A.’s rival skateboarders - the laid back Ramp Locals and the punk rock Daggers - go to war for skateboard supremacy in the action-packed drama Thrashin’ . No sooner has he arrived in Los Angeles to compete in a downhill skating competition, Corey Webster ( Josh Brolin , No Country For Old Men, The Goonies) finds himself falling for Chrissy ( Pamela Gidley , Liebestraum), a beautiful blonde with close connections to the skating scene. It turns out Chrissy’s brother is Tommy Hook ( Robert Rusler , Weird Science), the tough-as-nails leader of The Daggers who has his sights set on the skateboard competition prize. Starring: JOSH BROLIN (No Country For Old Men, The Goonies, Inherent Vice) ROBERT RUSLER (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge, Vamp, Weird Science) PAMELA GIDLEY (Liebestraum, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, The Little Vampire) SHERILYN FENN (TV’s Twin Peaks, Of Mice and

Fast Five Drives Over The Competition At The Box Office

" Fast Five " has left the competition in the dust with an $83.6 million debut to grab the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office, according to studio estimates Sunday. Universal Pictures' fifth movie in " The Fast and the Furious " franchise was by far this year's biggest opening. Its take was more than double the previous best of $39.2 million for " Rio ," the 20th Century Fox animated hit that slipped to No. 2 with $14.4 million. The No. 1 movie the two previous weekends, " Rio " raised its total to $103.6 million. "Fast Five" set a record for best April debut ever, speeding past the $71 million haul of its predecessor, "Fast & Furious," two years ago. The movie reteams stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker as outlaw driving aces and adds Dwayne Johnson as a federal agent on their tail. The action expands beyond the franchise's traditional racing scene into a broad crime romp. "Summer began April

New Clip From #DEARWHITEPEOPLE

New clip from DEAR WHITE PEOPLE . DEAR WHITE PEOPLE will open in theaters October 17, 2014. Winner of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival’s Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent, Dear White People is a sly, provocative satire of race relations in the age of Obama. Writer/director Justin Simien follows a group of African American students as they navigate campus life and racial politics at a predominantly white college in a sharp and funny feature film debut that earned him a spot on Variety’s annual “10 Directors to Watch.” When Dear White People screened at MOMA’s prestigious New Directors/New Films, the New York Times’ A.O. Scott wrote, “Seeming to draw equal measures of inspiration from Whit Stillman and Spike Lee, but with his own tart, elegant sensibility very much in control, Mr. Simien evokes familiar campus stereotypes only to smash them and rearrange the pieces.” The unexpected election of activist Samantha White ( Tessa Thompson ) as head of a traditionally blac

Movie Review: The Bye Bye Man

Wave bye-bye to 90 minutes of your precious time. Review by Brandon Wolfe Though a booming surplus in the 1980s, horror movie icons have becoming a scarce commodity in recent years. The glut of villains such as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Chucky, Leatherface, Pinhead and the Tall Man never really found a second generation in the decades since. Ghostface from Scream —more a title than a character, anyway—was the closest thing to come out of the ‘90s. The Aughts had a bit more luck, at least in the form of The Ring ’s Samara and Saw ’s Jigsaw, but even then, it wasn’t quite the same as the old days. Now, in the present day, horror shingle Blumhouse is breaking their backs trying to generate the next big icon, but the likes of Doris Zander and Bughuul aren’t quite sticking the way they intend them to. I bring this up because The Bye Bye Man feels like a very self-conscious attempt at filling that void. Its titular monster, a clawed, hooded specter (he sort of rese
