BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

The Conjuring's "Annabelle Doll" Spin-Off Film On It's Way

With Warner Bros. and New Line’s The Conjuring being one of the most successful horror movies of all time, it’s no surprise that a sequel was quickly put into development. The big surprise is that the studios are planning three micro-budgeted spinoffs based on the Warren Case Files, an inside source tells Bloody Disgusting exclusively. The first, which is currently untitled, will be based on the now infamous “ Annabelle Doll ”. Recently BD broke the news on John R. Leonetti‘s and John Darko‘s series “Nowheresville” ( read more ), which is now in active development – but we have also confirmed that Leonetti will share directorial duties with newcomer John Darko, our source reveals. As previously mentioned, New Line will be adopting the micro-budget approach on these projects. The tentatively titled The Annabelle Story is known to be a prequel to the events in the James Wan-directed The Conjuring . And we hear that production may start as early as December with John R. Leonetti

Batfleck Will BeTired, Weary & Seasoned

Warner Bros. were also present, represented by CEO Kevin Tsujihara, and he dropped a few more hints about what we can expect from Ben Affleck's Batman in the Man Of Steel follow-up. Batfleck will be " tired, weary and seasoned " having been doing the no-powers superhero thing "for a while" says Tsujihara. That chimes neatly with the story that Josh Brolin was approached for the role at one point, and with director Zack Snyder's own original announcement that Affleck's will be "a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter". While the film won't be an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns (which already exists as an animation), Frank Miller's grizzled, beaten-up, worn-in Batman is clearly something like the vibe intended. Of the absurd casting controversy, Tsujihara allows only that the response from fans has been "passionate": a testament, he says, to B

J. K. Rowling Returning To The World Of Harry Potter

Abandon all cynicism those who enter here, because Warner Bros. has put the wizarding world back in motion. News is just in that J. K. Rowling is working on a new movie set in the world of Harry Potter , her first screenplay and a possible launchpad for a whole Potter-ish franchise. The film, which will be based on Rowling's (officially, Magizoologist Newt Scamander's ) universe-expanding Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them , will be set in the wizarding world. It will feature creatures and characters - some new, some already familiar to Potter fans - and, promises Rowling, will be "neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world" set 70 years before Harry Potter sets foot in Hogwarts. That puts it somewhere around 1921, when Scamander would have been about 24 according to in-world chronology. "It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning Fantastic Beasts into a film,"

BULLET TO THE HEAD Review. It's A Fun Ride

BULLET TO THE HEAD Review By: MattInRC Closing out an amazingly productive January, BULLET TO THE HEAD is a typical but enjoyable 80's/90's action flick. As we close out the month of January, one cannot help but remark upon the many quality releases that have graced what's usually a terrible month for films. Whether it was Gangster Squad , Broken City , or Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters , January has provided us with a surprisingly diverse and enjoyable list of new releases. Among them is the Sylvester Stallone action flick Bullet to the Head, a brainless but enjoyable action flick that's his best in a long time. Jimmy Bobo ( Sylvester Stallone , Expendables series) is a former soldier turned hitman who's never known life outside of killing and jail time. When his partner ( Jon Seda ) is sliced up by the deadly hitman Keegan ( Jason Momoa , Stargate: Atlantis), Bobo joins forces with Washington DC cop Sung Kwon ( Sung Kang , 2 Fast 2 Furious) who's

GANGSTER SQUAD Review. It's That Good!

GANGSTER SQUAD Review By: MattInRC Does GANGSTER SQUAD cut the mustard as a 1940's crime thriller, or does it get lost in martinis and swing music? I really enjoy well-done gangster flicks. From The Untouchables to LA Confidential , modern tales of classic mob bosses who 'clip and fence' their way to top - and the cops who take them down - provide a fascinating commentary on one of the most violent periods in American history. Luckily,  GANGSTER SQUAD  can join that list of able-bodied films. It's smart, a little funny, well-written and directed, and features some of the best performances of the year. Granted it's only January, but Gangster Squad is that good. Set in 1949 Los Angeles, Squad follows mob boss Mickey Cohen ( Sean Penn , At Close Range) as he attempts to gain control of the city. A former championship boxer, Cohen uses brutal tactics to expand his territory while fending off bosses from Chicago. To him, it's just another bou

Third Hobbit Film Gets A Name & Release Date

Warner Bros. and New Line have set July 18, 2014, as the release date for the third film in Peter Jackson's ambitious The Hobbit trilogy . Additionally, the second film has been retitled The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug . The third film will take the title that was previously assigned to the second film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again . Warners is banking big on the trilogy. And, in sharp contrast to Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the second and third Hobbit pics will open within seven months of each other (the Lord of the Rings pics opened a year apart, at Christmas). “We wanted to have a shorter gap between the second and third films," Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said in a statement. "Opening in July affords us not only the perfect summer tentpole, but fans will have less time to wait for the finale of this epic adventure." Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, president of international distribution, added: "The

Wachowskis Brothers In The Justice League Running?

Warner Bros. remains committed to getting its Justice League film off the ground, and is even now running down the list of possible directors. But just as one director has taken himself out of the running, others are reportedly being considered, with the Wachowskis said to be definite candidates. But let’s deal with who has definitely decided against the film first, shall we? That would be Ben Affleck, who talked to the Canadian press and said, “It sounds really exciting, but it's not something I'm working on.” As to the Wachowskis? Their possible involvement has been picked up by Moviehole, but it’s all still rumour for now. While we’re certain their names would be on Warners’ list (especially given their history with the studio and their avowed love for comic book characters), they’re not known for leaping onto other peoples’ projects, preferring to self-generate their own movies. And while the studio is apparently high on the duo following the positive buzz for Cloud

Heather Graham Returns For Hangover Part III

While she may have sat out last year's trip to Thailand, " The Hangover " thesp Heather Graham is set to return for Todd Phillips' comedy " The Hangover Part III ," which distributor Warner Bros. will co-finance with Legendary Pictures. In the original blockbuster, Graham played Jade, a Las Vegas stripper who marries Ed Helms' character, Stu. " The Hangover Part II " followed Helms and co-stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha as they traveled to Thailand for Stu's wedding to Lauren ( Jamie Chung ), leaving Jade to stay behind stateside. While plot details remain under wraps for the latest sequel, it's safe to say a reunion between Stu and Jade is on the itinerary. Graham joins fellow franchise veterans Mike Epps and Ken Jeong in the ensemble cast, which is expected to add several well-known actors in cameo roles. In addition to co-writing the script with Craig Mazin, Phillips will also produce with Daniel

THE CAMPAIGN Review. Is It Worth Your Vote?

THE CAMPAIGN Review By: MattInRC A strong opening leads to a disappointing finish for THE CAMPAIGN . If there was ever a time that our country should be laughing about the current political system, it should be now. Faced with the lowest approval ratings for our federal elected officials and a growing feeling that recent Supreme Court decisions have allowed powerful interests to control our elections, you would think that a smart, raunchy comedy about politics would be the perfect cure. On the surface, it would seem that The Campaign would serve this interest quite well: however, it fails to plant itself firmly on any comedic ground, existing somewhere between what-could-have been and the little engine that couldn't. Congressman Cam Brady ( Will Ferrell , Megamind) is the unquestioned leader of North Carolina’s 14th District; he says the right things to his constituents (although none of it ever makes sense), has the perfect looking wife and kids (who listen to ghetto rap

Could There Be A Prequel To The Shining?

Could we be in for a return trip to the Overlook Hotel? Warner Bros. is quietly exploring the possibility of a prequel to “ The Shining ,” the 1980 Stanley Kubrick chillfest that many fans regard as the scariest movie of all time. The studio has solicited the involvement of Hollywood writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt to craft a new take as producers, according to a person familiar with the project who was not authorized to talk about it publicly. The film would focus on what happened before Jack Torrance (of course played memorably onscreen by Jack Nicholson ), his wife and their psychic son arrived at the haunted retreat where Torrance soon descends into violent madness. A WB spokeswoman cautioned that any "Shining" prequel was in a very early stage and not even formally in development. Still, even the possibility of an addition to a modern classic is bound to get film fans excited or riled up (or both). One facto

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Easter Eggs. Did You Catch Any Of These?

When we go to the movie we all expect some form of Easter Eggs in the films that we see. Normally in Marvel films there are plenty of them. And now Christopher Nolan has stepped up to the plate with his own in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES . cinemablend went above and beyond the call finding these Easter Eggs in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES . One of the greatest things about Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy is that it’s clear that the director is a real Batman fan. Over the course of his three films, Nolan paid tribute to some of the greatest Caped Crusader stories ever written, including Alan Moore’s “ The Killing Joke ,” Frank Miller’s “ Batman: Year One ,” Joseph Loeb and Tim Sale’s “ The Long Halloween ” and, most recently, Doug Moench and Chuck Dixon’s “ Knightfall .” But for obvious reasons the filmmaker wasn’t able to stick the entirety of the Batman universe into the series, so he did the next best thing: he littered his movies with easter eggs. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Movie Revi
