The film followed a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air. Columbia isn’t even done shooting The Amazing Spider-Man , its Spider-Man reboot, but it has already begun working on a sequel. James Vanderbilt , who penned Amazing , will be back behind the keyboard for the continuation of the new movie franchise. Vanderbilt had a meeting with the Spider-Man filmmakers and studio execs yesterday outlining his take, getting a thumbs up, and will now begin writing. Vanderbilt has become part of the Spider-Man family at Columbia, which has enjoyed great success with a tightknit group of creative people. Vanderbilt first worked on Spider-Man 4 for the studio, back when Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire were planning to continue the series. At the time, he was chosen for his character-driven approach to the story rather than a focus on special effects and worked on an outline for a trio of films. The modern remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzennegar -starring sci-fi flick looks set to shoot in the city’s giant Pinewood Toronto Studios, the Toronto Star newspaper reported Thursday. The booking follows Pinewood’s North American beach-head receiving a $34.5 million loan from the Ontario government to lure big budget movie and TV shoots to the city. Farrell received the offer last week and has since been in negotiations with Sony. He would play a man tortured by recurring dreams of a trip to Mars, a role that was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original 1990 pic. Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender also had been considered for the role. The "Total Recall" reboot, to be directed by Len Wiseman from a script by Kurt Wimmer, will contemporize author Philip K. Dick's source story, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale." Farrell's casting would help contemporize the pic, offering a stark contrast to Schwarzenegger's persona.
