BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Kevin Costner To Star In Django Unchained

Quentin Tarantino never has trouble putting together good casts for his films, but his Sergio Leone-style Spaghetti Western Django Unchained is turning out to be quite something. Kevin Costner is in negotiations to join a cast that is headed by Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio . Costner is in talks to play Ace Woody , and it's a real surprise turn for an actor most associated with good guy roles. He's the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes. The club and ranch are owned by Calvin Candie ( DiCaprio ) and Ace Woody is the one who pits the "mandingo" fighters against one another, and has little qualms about mistreating and even killing the slaves who don't measure up. The roles that DiCaprio and Costner will play are every bit as sadistic as the one that Waltz played in Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, and whi

David Goyer To Write Screenplay For Legendary Pictures Godzilla Reboot

David Goyer has worked with Thomas Tull's Legendary Pictures on both Chris Nolan's Batman trilogy and the new Superman reboot Man Of Steel . Now the in-demand writer will pen the screenplay, from a draft written by David Callaham, for Legendary Pictures’ new version of Godzilla. The project will fall under Legendary's overall agreement with Warner Bros while Toho Company, which own the rights to the oversized reptile, will distribute the film in Japan. Toho’s Godzilla franchise boasts one of the most widely recognized film creatures worldwide, resulting in a series of books, television programs, video games and more than 25 films worldwide. Legendary intends to approach the film and its characters in the most authentic manner possible and was smart to get a pro like Goyer on board so early in the process since he has so much experience creating franchises. Of course, Sony Pictures in 1998 tried to jumpstart a Godzilla franchise and that disappointed. And the first Godz

Christopher Meloni Joins Man OF Steel

Christopher Meloni , who a month ago surprised everyone by exiting his longtime home as co-star of NBC's Law & Order: SVU , is in line for a big-time follow-up. I hear he is in negotiations for a major role in Man Of Steel , the Superman franchise reboot from Warner Bros that Zack Snyder is directing. No word yet on what part he might get, though. He would join such big-name players as Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane in the film, which stars Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane. Russell Crowe In Talks To Play Jor-El In Man of Steel

Russell Crowe is negotiations to play the Kryptonian father of Superman in Man of Steel , the Zack Snyder-directed relaunch of Warners and Legendary’s Superman franchise. The casting of heavyweight Crowe in the role has a ring of synchronicity to it as it harkens back to the casting of heavyweight Marlon Brando in Warner's 1978 Superman movie. Brando was famously paid $3.7 million dollars in the mid-1970s for the part that amounted to 15 minutes of screen timea and two weeks' worth of work. Details of how large the role (a scientist who forsees the destruction of his planet and squires his infant son into an escape rocket bound for Earth) is in Man of Steel are not being revealed. Steel already has Kevin Costner playing Jonathan Kent, the human father of Superman, who is being played by Henry Cavill. Christopher Nolan is producing the movie, which is heading for a late summer or fall start in Vancouver. Sean Penn and Clive Owen were reportedly considered for the ro

Antje Traue Cast As Female Villain In Superman: Man of Steel

German actress Antje Traue has emerged as a strong contender for the role of the villainess in Warner Bros’ Superman: Man of Steel movie. The movie, deep in casting mode and toplined by Henry Cavill , already has one of its bad guys in the form of Michael Shannon , who is playing General Zod. The story is calling for a female counterpart although it is unclear if the character’s name is Ursa , who appeared memorably in Superman II as well as Smallville and the comic books, or Faora , a comic book character. Both are super-powered Kryptonian antagonists. Traue has no offer but has tested for the role. It is unclear which other actresses have tested for the part as well. Traue has appeared with Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster in Pandorum and has the Renny Harlin action movie 5 Days in August, which also stars Val Kilmer and Rupert Friend, in the can. Michael Shannon Cast As General Zod In Man of Steel

Michael Shannon as General Zod will face off against Henry Cavill’s Superman in director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel . Warners Bros. announced Sunday that Shannon, who received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for Revolutionary Road for his performance as a mentally-troubled man and who has also been seen as a stern federal agent in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, has been cast as Superman’s nemesis. "Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role," Snyder said. Zod, like Superman, is from Krypton, where he commanded its armed forces. The character appeared in both 1978’s Superman and its 1980 sequel Superman II, where he was played by actor Terence Stamp. The developing cast of Man of Steel also includes Amy Adams as Lois La

Zack Snyder Talks About Chris Nolan & Superman: Man Of Steel

Faster than a speeding bullet or merely Batcycle-quick? That was the question we put to Superman: Man Of Steel 's director Zack Snyder when Empire collared him at Sucker Punch's recent London junket . Credit to him, he resisted the urge to kick-off a superhero turf war, giving a diplomatic answer that involved kryptonite arrows and a slightly baffled look. The diplomacy was unsurprising considering the Dark Knight's current custodian, Christopher Nolan , is working closely with Snyder and writer David Goyer to bring Supes back to the big screen. "Chris has been amazingly generous with me," Snyder told us of his producer's contributions to Superman: Man Of Steel's storyline. "He's making [The Dark Knight Rises] but he takes time if we're knocking around ideas for the script. We'll all sit around in a room, beat it around and try to figure it out..." So there you have it: Nolan has officially developed an Inception-like power ove

Amy Adams Cast As Lois Lane In Upcoming Superman Reboot

Amy Adams  (The Fighter)  has landed the iconic role of journalist Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman reboot from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Adams joins    Henry Cavill , Diane Lane and Kevin Costner on the production, which will be directed by Zack Snyder. “Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," Snyder said in a statement Sunday. "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful." Adams will join Phyllis Coates, Margot Kidder and Kate Bosworth as actresses who have played the iconic Lane. Superman: Man of Steel is currently set for a December 2012 release. Zack Snyder's Man of Steel To Hold It's Own

When Bryan Singer took moviegoers to Metropolis in the 2006 film ” Superman Returns ,” he paid careful homage to the hero’s cinematic past. Don’t expect that approach from Zack Snyder , who on Wednesday shared his guiding principle: ”Respect the canon but don’t be a slave to the movies.” Snyder’s version of the Man of Steel is scheduled to reach theaters in December 2012 with Henry Cavill in the title role, and the director said that this will be the first modern Superman feature that will truly break from Richard Donner’s landmark 1978 film, which shared its star, Christopher Reeve , with three sequels and then also deeply informed Singer’s 2006 film, which put Brandon Routh in the iconic blue tights but tapped into both style and story elements from the work of Donner and Reeve. “Literally, the one thing that everyone can start to think about is that we’re making a movie that finally goes with the approach that there’s been no other Superman movies,” Snyder said. “If you look

Diane Lane Cast As Martha Kent In Superman Reboot

Diane Lane is an actress who has seemed perpetually 37 for about 20 years. There's a weary, sexy worldly wisdom to her that has allowed her to appeal to both men and women, either in erotic "thrillers" like "Unfaithful" or big crowd-pleasers like "Secretariat." Thirty-seven is a good age for an actress to seem; old enough to be respected, but young enough to still be attractive to all age groups. Yet the 46-year-old, onetime Oscar-nominee Lane will play Martha Kent , Superman's "mom," in the upcoming Superman reboot. She has played moms before, of course, but not mothers that have typically been portrayed as matronly rocking-chair dwellers. To be fair, with Annette O'Toole on "Smallville," Superman's adoptive parents have gotten younger in recent years; it's still rumored that Kevin Costner will play Pa Kent, after all. (Actually, that's totally not fair: Costner is 56, almost a decade older than Lane.) Lan

Will Tom Welling Suit Up As Superman? Or Should He

We have another great article by our guest writer Jonathan Cyfer . Make sure to check out his blog and follow him on twitter . No, I'm not asking if Tom Welling should portray Clark Kent/Superman in the upcoming Superman: Man of Steel (2012) film. Henry Cavill already won that role. Let it go, rabid Tom Welling/Smallville fans. Let it go. I mean, should Tom Welling actually portray the Man of Steel in full Superman costume in the last reel of the two-hour Smallville series finale scheduled to air on May 13th? In other words, should Tom Welling actually be Superman on the small screen for any length of time at the end of the series? My answer is " no ". OK, here's my take. The entire series is based on the audience watching Clark develop his abilities and his personality, from a 15 year old kid who, at the start of the series, is just beginning to become aware of his powers, who he is, and (gasp) where he really comes from ("You mean you're no

Viggo Mortensen To Play General Zod In Superman Reboot?

Now that British hunk Henry Cavill is set to play the Man of Steel , the search is on the fill out the rest of the cast of Warner Bros.' big-budget Superman reboot. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder are zeroing in on an intriguing actor to play the villain: Viggo Mortensen . Mortensen , who is still in negotiations for Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman , is said to be at the top of the list to play General Zod , the evil and super-powered scientist who was portrayed by Terrence Stamp in 1980's Superman II. If Mortensen's Snow White deal doesn't close, that would potentially free him up to make Superman. Or Universal and Warner Bros. could work out his schedule and enable him to do both. Sources say no talks have commenced and that Mortensen is just a "person of interest," much like Kevin Costner is for the role of Jonathan Kent. The actors aren't the only ones considered for their res

Kevin Costner To Play Jonathan Kent In Superman Reboot

Deadline is reporting that there is heightened interest in Kevin Costner for a key role in the Superman reboot that is being directed by Zack Snyder for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures. Henry Cavill was recently set in the Man of Steel role. I'm not exactly sure what role Costner is likely to play, but he has certainly been in good guy mode lately. Latinoreview is reporting that Costner will be playing Jonathan  Kent , Superman's Daddy. Beyond his performance in the John Wells-directed The Company Men , Costner surfaced as an unlikely hero in aiding the cleanup in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. British Petroleum purchased over 30 centrifuge machines which separate oil from water, technology that was developed with a reported $24 million in funding by the actor over 15 years. The Superman film is being produced by Chris Nolan, Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thoma

Superman Will Be Ballsy In The Upcoming Movie

Sure Zack Snyder can bring epic comic book tales to the screen – he proved that with Watchmen and 300 – but given the level of sex and violence in the director’s output, he may not seem like the perfect choice for a character as old-fashioned and wholesome as Superman. Snyder tells SFX, the real reason he’s agreed to direct the next Superman movie – currently titled Superman: The Man of Steel – is the film’s take on the character, as conceived by the Batman creative team of David Goyer and Christopher Nolan. “My feeling about Superman is that I’ve been a fan of the character for a long time. But the question for me was always, ‘What can you do with Superman in a modern world?’ And I think the amazing thing that Chris and David have created, that I’m working on now, and the reason why I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll do that,’ was that they found that in him. They found the why in him. That’s the exciting part for me.” And just how will Snyder’s Superman differ from previous incarnations o
