Nick Stoller returns to direct the sorority-centric sequel, which also brings back Rose Byrne and Dave Franco . Selena Gomez has joined the cast of Universal and Good Universe’s collegiate comedy “ Neighbors 2 ,” which sees Chloe Grace Moretz joining Seth Rogen and Zac Efron , TheWrap has learned. Nicholas Stoller is back in the director’s chair, working off a script he co-wrote with Andrew Jay Cohen, Brendan O’Brien, Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Rose Byrne, Dave Franco, Ike Barinholtz and Carla Gallo are also returning, while new cast members include Kiersey Clemons and Beanie Feldstein. Gomez is expected to play a rival to Moretz, who’s the leader of a sorority that runs up against Rogen and Byrne’s family. Additional plot details remain under wraps. Last year’s neon-hued, madness-inducing criminal trip Spring Breakers seemed one of the least likely to generate a sequel. And yet that’s exactly what will happen, as backers Wild Bunch have announced that Spring Breakers: The Second Coming is in development. “It’s not a direct sequel although there are allusions to some of the characters in the original,” Wild Bunch co-chief Maraval tells Screen International, adding that there will be a blend of cast members from the first film with new actors. The plot finds a group of spring breakers taking on extreme militant Christians who attempt to convert them. Original writer-director Harmony Korine isn’t involved in the sequel, and we’re not sure whether he’s given it his blessing. Spun’s Jonas Akerlund will handle directorial chores, with Irvine Welsh on script duty. The rights to the new movie will be sold at Cannes this year.
