Sam Raimi Joins Poltergeist Remake

Sam Raimi is boarding MGM’s Poltergeist . The filmmaker, who got his start with the Evil Dead horror movies, will produce the remake of the 1982 film -- which Steven Spielberg produced and co-scripted from his original story -- with Nathan Kahane and Roy Lee. Despite some reports, Raimi is not directing the remake but will help oversee the search for a helmer. David Lindsay-Abaire, who worked on Disney's Oz: The Great and Powerful for Raimi, is working on the script, which focuses on a family whose house was built on a holy site and whosedaughter is taken by ghosts. The movie is one of two horror remakes on which MGM is in active development, the other being Carrie. Julianne Moore is circling the role of the mother opposite Chloe Moretz . Raimi is currently producing a remake of his Evil Dead. Fede Alvarez is directing the pic, which TriStar will release April 12, 2013. Please Leave A Comment- Source- THR

Lily Collins Lands Lead In Evil Dead Remake

Ghost House and Mandate Pictures are going BIG with their casting for their forthcoming remake of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead , which begins lensing this March in New Zealand. Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively that Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest, Mirror Mirror) is in final negotiations to play " Mia " in FilmDistrict's reboot aiming for release on April 12, 2013. *Update* Mia is the LEAD , and is (sort of) the female version of Ashley J. Williams (Ash), once donned by Bruce Campbell in the original trilogy. To reveal more would ruin the movie. In this version, the story centers on five friends (David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia) holed up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead with a demonic force unleashed possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival. As we also exclusively reported, there is a drug subplot. As previously explained, David is a mechanic and is engaged to Natalie. Mia is the friend who is heading

The Evil Dead Remake Will Happen In 2012

Sony Pictures will distribute the remake of Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead , which Fede Alvarez will direct in 2012, around the world, except in the U.K. and France. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and FilmDistrict negotiated the deal with Ghost House Pictures, which is producing the reboot. Rob Tapert, original franchise star Bruce Campbell and Raimi are producing. Ghost House partners Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane are executive producers. “Sony Pictures has a fantastic history collaborating with both Ghost House and FilmDistrict and we couldn’t be more excited to continue working together on the contemporary adaptation of Evil Dead,” said Jeff Blake, chairman of Sony Pictures worldwide marketing and distribution. “Sam and Rob have an extraordinary vision and we can’t wait to share this film with audiences in most territories throughout the world.” Hewing close in plot to the original released in 1981, the new Evil Dead follows what happens when five friends in a remote cabin

Michelle Williams Offered Good Witch, In Oz

Disney may have found the final piece of its triumvirate of witches for its Oz movie: Michelle Williams . Williams has been offered the role of Glinda, the good witch, in Oz: The Great and Powerful , Disney’s prequel-ish take on The Wizard of Oz tale that stars James Franco and Mila Kunis and is being directed by Sam Raimi. Kunis is on board as Theadora, a witch who falls for Franco. Rachel Weisz is in talk to play sister Evanora, the evil witch who wants to rule the land and tries to seduce Theadora to the dark side; Weisz’s dealmaking is complicated due to her having an offer to star opposite Jeremy Renner in Universal’s new Bourne movie, and shooting schedules would overlap. If a deal makes for Williams, she would play a powerful witch who teams up with Franco to defeat Evanora (and maybe Theadora, but we’re not revealing spoilers). Oz centers on Franco as a snake oil salesman who finds himself dealing with real magic when his balloon carries him into a fabled land and he

Rachel Weisz To Become A Witch

Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz is in negotiations to play the villainess in Oz: The Great and Powerful , Disney’s prequel-ish take on The Wizard of Oz tale that stars James Franco and Mila Kunis and is being directed by Sam Raimi . The movie stars Franco as Oz, a snake oil salesman who finds himself dealing with real magic when his balloon carries him into a fabled land and he runs into genuine witches. Weisz would play Evanora, a powerful, evil witch who intends to rule the land. She is the sister of Theadora ( Kunis ) and tries to seduce her to the dark side. The role would be a change of pace for Weisz, who — despite an eclectic resume ranging from her Oscar-winning work in The Constant Gardener to Wong Kar Wai’s My Blueberry Nights to The Mummy — has never worked on a project of this scale and never tackled what is sure to be a splashy role. James Franco In Talks To Star In Oz

The Oscar-nominated host of the Academy Awards is in early talks to star in Oz, the Great and Powerful , Disney’s prequel-ish take on The Wizard of Oz tale being directed by Sam Raimi . The Oz role has been a hot one since Robert Downey Jr . fell out two and a half weeks ago. Johnny Depp was then in discussions for the role but after several meetings ultimately passed last night. Franco may be, at first blush, an odd choice to topline the tale of a young illusionist with a grandiose attitude who is forced to flee a traveling circus. His hot air balloon is swept up by a tornado to the land of Oz, which is run by two magical wicked witches. But from acting pinned to a rock in 127 Hours to a cameo as a drug lord in Green Hornet to his stint on General Hospital, Franco is showing he is not following anyone’s playbook, but his own. Sources caution that no dealmaking has begun and many issues would need to be ironed out, but if the stars align, Franco would be back working with Rai

Sam Raimi To Direct The Shadow?

Sam Raimi To Direct The Shadow? Following the Spider-Man 4 debacle, all eyes were on World of Warcraft as Sam Raimi's next potential gig behind the camera. But IESB are reporting that an inside source at Camp Raimi reckons the director may well opt for The Shadow, before galloping off to Azeroth. All so much hearsay of course, but maybe, just maybe, there's something in it. Raimi was already attached to The Shadow as a producer, and Warcraft isn't yet written, while Siavash Farahanl handed in the second draft of his Shadow script in the second half of last year. As a lower-rung hero - at least in terms of general moviegoer recognition - The Shadow isn't necessarily a huge undertaking, meaning Raimi could possibly bring some of his back-to-basics Drag Me to Hell approach to the material. If that was taking us back to the Evil Dead days, maybe this could hark back to Darkman. Plus the "ferocious" script that IESB describe - broken bones, meat grinders - sounds

Spider-Man Going To Get A Make Over For Next Film

Spider-Man Going To Get A Make Over The next Spider-Man film will be a reboot of the franchise, not a continuation of series Sam Raimi created back in 2002 — in a move similar to Batman Begins restarting the Batman franchise seven years after Batman and Robin underwhelmed fans and critics. This time around, the series will place Peter Parker in a more contemporary setting, as a teenager battling today’s issues. The decision to go with an origin story stemmed from Sony developing two Spidey projects simultaneously. According to studio insiders, Sony was working on both Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 and the new origin story from James Vanderbilt, who wrote Zodiac. The original plan was to keep the Spider-Man gang together for one last film in 2011 before rebooting the series in 2012. When it became clear that Raimi would not be able to make the summer 2011 release date planned for Spider-Man 4, the studio opted to scrap Spider-Man 4 altogether, and focus solely on the series reboot. Who will helm

Spiderman-4 Rachel McAdams Or Romola Garai To Play Black Cat?

Spiderman -4 Rachel McAdams Or Romola Garai To Be Black Cat? The Rumors are starting to go around. We can exclusively reveal that actress Rachel McAdams has met with the producers of the film for a major role. McAdams (of 'Wedding Crashers' and 'Sherlock Holmes' fame) is said to be a top contender for the role of Felicia Hardy, known to comic fans as The Black Cat . Fans recall that when Spidey first encounters the Black Cat, she's a cat burglar looking to free her ailing father from prison. She becomes smitten with the web- slinger , to the point of a stalker-level obsession. Later stories had Peter reciprocating her affection and her becoming a lover, a friend and ally (the perfect thing to allow Sony to create a Spidey spin-off). Not only that, but Romola Garai has auditioned for the role. Garai is a 27-year-old British actress who starred in Amazing Grace, The Other Man and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. In the latest issue of The Observer, Garai shar

World Of WarCraft Film Has Found It's Screenwriter

World Of WarCraft Film Has Found It's Screenwriter MTV let us know that Sam Raimi told them that "Saving Private Ryan" writer Robert Rodat will be tackling the " Warcraft " script. The aim is to adapt the game, rather than a previously conceived story written within that world. "We want to be really faithful to the game," Raimi said. "We would have our writer, Robert Rodat , really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of WarCraft ' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture." Are you a " World of Warcraft " player? What are your hopes for this movie? Will "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi be the filmmaker who finally gives the world a first-class video game adaptation? Please Leave A Comment- Source- MTV

Sam Raimi To Produce "Refuge"

Sam Raimi To Produce "Refuge" The genre maestro has signed on to produce a supernatural horror pic of that name, based on a pitch from up-and-coming British director Corin Hardy . The project has been set up at Mandate, where Raimi' s Ghost House Pictures has a deal. "Refuge" centers on a remote town terrorized by a Yeti, the mythological creature native to the mountains of the Himalayas. Hardy will direct from a script by fellow British writer Tom De Ville. Meanwhile, Blum's Blumhouse Prods. will finance a short film with the same premise as the "Refuge" feature. Hardy and De Ville will work on that as well. The idea is to offer a teaser that can help Hardy refine his vision even as the script is being developed. Please Leave A Comment- Source- THR

Sony Hires Screen Writer for Spider-Man 5 & 6

Sony Hires Screen Writer for Spider-Man 5 & 6 Let's See if Michael Papajohn Who is an all round Good Guy and and a friend of mine, will be making an appearance in any of the new Spider Man movies. We over here at Sandwichjohnfilms can only hope so. As Sony Pictures Entertainment preps a fourth installment of "Spider-Man" to begin production early next year, the studio has quietly engaged screenwriter James Vanderbilt to pen "Spider-Man 5" and "Spider-Man 6." Vanderbilt was the first writer on "Spider-Man 4." Director Sam Raimi brought on "Rabbit Hole" playwright David Lindsay-Abaire to rewrite him, and Gary Ross is now rewriting that script. The studio is enthusiastic about where it stands as the picture begins prepping for an early 2010 production start for a May 2011 release. Raimi didn't embrace all of Vanderbilt's ideas, but execs at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have. Vanderbilt has been hired to pen the f
