Russell Brand and Julianne Hough have been set to star in the directorial debut of Diablo Cody . The Mandate project, which was once titled Lamb of God , follows a young conservative religious woman ( Hough ) who loses her faith after a plane crash, decides to go to Las Vegas to live the life of a sinner, and on her journey finds her way back to her faith. Brand plays her unlikely companion who helps her find herself. Mason Novick is producing the project, which is eying a spring start. Mandate has been moving fast on the feature, picking it up in late June and looking to cast almost immediately The company has been very high on it as it marks the third collaboration between the players. (Juno was the first while the upcoming Young Adult drama is the second.) Brand and Hough recently wrapped Rock of Ages for New Line. The final piece of the casting puzzle is in place for Rock Of Ages , the Adam Shankman-directed adaptation of the Broadway musical for New Line Cinema. Malin Akerman is set to play the role of Constance, a journalist who intends to write an expose on decadent rocker Stacee Jaxx ( Tom Cruise ). After a seduction, and after they sing a duet on the Foreigner song I Want To Know What Love Is , they find out in a naughty bedroom romp. This has been a hot role. The actor will play Jaxx , who sings Bon Jovi's " Wanted Dead or Alive " in the theater production from which the film is adapted. Tom Cruise is in final negotiations to co-star in Rock of Ages , New Line's adaptation of the hit stage musical about 1980s rockers. Adam Shankman  ( A Walk to Remember, Bringing Down the House) is directing from a script by Chris D'Arienzo. Cruise has been circling the project since October. He will play Stacee Jaxx, the arrogant and charming star at the top of his career. Jaxx sings Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead of Alive" in the theater production. Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand are also circling big roles in the film but do not have deals yet.
