BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Tom Cruise On Board For The Magnificent Seven Remake

Chalk one more title up on the board marked “Remakes.” Though this one is more of the wheel of cinematic life turning, as The Magnificent Seven is remade by Hollywood. MGM has decided to dip once more into the cupboard of title rights it owns and is now developing a new version of John Sturges' 1960 classic with Tom Cruise attached to star. Before you get all up in high dudgeon about the desecration of a classic, remember that The Magnificent Seven is itself a remake of Seven Samurai . This one is still at a very embryonic stage, with no director or writer attached, though Variety has heard that the company is even now kicking off the hunt for someone to scribble the script. So we don’t yet know whether it will exactly follow the plot of the original, which sees a group of American gunmen hired to protect a Mexican village from a group of bandits. There’s also no word on which of the movie’s meaty characters Cruise is interested in. He already has plenty of active and po

Tom Cruise Could Star In We Mortals Are. Based On Japanese Graphic Novel All You Need Is Kill

Tom Cruise is a guy who likes to stay busy. With two films in the can ( Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Rock of Ages ), one filming ( One Shot ) and another ( Horizons ) lined up after that, Cruise is solidifying his interest in starring in the Warner Bros. sci-fi actioner We Mortals Are , with negotiations expected to begin soon. Based on the 2004 Japanese graphic novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka and Yoshitoshi Abe, the film would have Cruise playing a soldier defending Earth from attacking aliens. Killed in battle, he is then stuck in a time loop that causes him to relive that day over and over while gaining strength and skill each time as he tries to change his fate. Dante Harper and Joby Harold wrote the adapted screenplay. Has Ghost Protocol hitting theaters December 21 and Rock of Ages opening in June. With Paramount's One Shot shooting now for a February 2013 release, and Universal's Horizons lined up to start production in the new year

Why Hollywood Needs Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise would make a great Survivor contestant. Despite his peculiar public image and less-than-stellar domestic box office in recent years, the 49-year-old has four big studio movies hitting theaters in the next 18 months: Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol in December, the now-filming One Shot for Paramount, June's Rock of Ages for New Line and the untitled Joseph Kosinski sci-fi epic for Warner Bros. And THR has learned that Warners is again talking to the actor for the lead in its big-budget sci-fi war pic We Mortals Are (aka All You Need Is Kill), being directed by Doug Liman . "The studios are interested in him again," says one producer. What a turnaround. When Mission: Impossible III opened in May 2006, the actor had been under siege for his over-excited Oprah appearance, his public stumping for Scientology and his anti- psychiatry rant on Today. MI-3's $398 million worldwide gross was nearly 30 percent less than the previous film's global t

Malin Akerman Joins Rock Of Ages

The final piece of the casting puzzle is in place for Rock Of Ages , the Adam Shankman-directed adaptation of the Broadway musical for New Line Cinema. Malin Akerman is set to play the role of Constance, a journalist who intends to write an expose on decadent rocker Stacee Jaxx ( Tom Cruise ). After a seduction, and after they sing a duet on the Foreigner song I Want To Know What Love Is , they find out in a naughty bedroom romp. This has been a hot role. Shankman at first courted Anne Hathaway , who couldn't do it because she landed the Catwoman role in The Dark Knight Rises. Then, he courted Amy Adams, but Shankman again lost out to a superhero when she landed Lois Lane in Man of Steel. Akerman joins Bryan Cranston , who plays the mayor of Los Angeles, his prudish wife that Catherine Zeta-Jones will play, Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti , Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough . Not a bad cast for a Chris D'Arienzo musical that started as a s
