We're now a year away from the much-anticipated (and much-puzzled over) sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 classic Blade Runner . Many of the details are still under wraps, but at least it's no longer untitled: the film is called Blade Runner 2049 . Which makes sense, since the movie is apparently set several (the title makes it three, since the original takes place in 2019) decades after Scott's film. Harrison Ford is back as Rick Deckard, and the world he inhabits has just gotten worse, with environmental catastrophe plaguing humanity. Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Carla Juri, Barkhad Abdi and Dave Bautista are also among the cast, with Sicario and Arrival's Denis Villeneuve calling the shots. Themyscira is a hidden island where Amazon women of Greek myth have thrived for centuries, living in harmony and free to self-govern away from the gaze of man. It’s also, of course, the birthplace of Wonder Woman, who after years of false starts, is finally a movie star. With a much heralded introduction in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice , Wonder Woman ( Gal Gadot ) is now a cornerstone in Warner Bros.’ DC Comics multiverse, with a crucial role in the first Justice League movie (out November 2017), and the center of her own long-awaited film, which will hit screens next June. Directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster), Wonder Woman will be an origin story illustrating the transformation of a young Princess Diana into the greatest female warrior of all time. The hitherto gripping House Of Cards is back in March to give Machiavellianism a bad name. The Netflix Beltway drama/thriller will be looking to emulate the likes of Homeland in rediscovering its best form after a slight season 3 wobble. There’s no sign of the First Lady, Claire Underwood ( Robin Wright ), here – for reasons that will be obvious if you’ve seen season 3, but Frank Underwood ( Kevin Spacey ) and his faithful sidekick Doug Stamper ( Michael Kelly ) are seen breaking ground in the Shallow Grave sense of the phrase somewhere on the Presidential campaign trail. Washington D.C.’s Dick Dastardly and Muttley will no doubt be more co-dependent than ever, after the climax of the third season left them both with yet more skeletons in their already-brimming closets. Warner Bros. has officially announced the commencement of filming on the solo Wonder Woman movie, complete with the full cast and a new first look photo of Gal Gadot as Diana Prince. Principal photography will take place on location in the UK, France and Italy. Joining Gadot in the Patty Jenkins -directed movie are: Chris Pine as Captain Steve Trevor, Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (Clash of the Titans, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (the Harry Potter films), Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting), Saïd Taghmaoui (G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In, Van Helsing) and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead, UK's The Office). Wright would seem to have replaced Nicole Kidman in the role she had been in negotiations for.
