BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Lovelace DVD Review. Too Short & Lacks The Impact Of An Oscar-Worthy Production

Lovelace DVD Review By: MattInRC Lovelace is too short and lacks the impact of an Oscar-worthy production. For a woman in Hollywood, bearing one's breasts seems to have various effects - for Gwyneth Paltrow , it won her an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love , and we all know the attention Sharon Stone received for her portrayal in Basic Instinct . But for many, showing off your 'attributes' usually leads to unintended consequences, especially if the final product is not well-received. For Actress Amanda Seyfried , it's unclear what her very public showing off in the flat and uneven Lovelace will do to enhance her career. Based on the biography of the woman who starred in the most famous porn film of all time - Deep Throat - Lovelace is actually Linda Boreman, a 21-year-old living at home with a controlling mother (the barely recognizable Sharon Stone ) and a father ( Robert Patrick ) who chooses to look the other way. Seeking her freedom, Linda meets the sex

Identity Thief Review. The Film Is Well-Intentioned

Identity Thief  Movie Review By: MattInRC Is Identity Thief a rollicking comedic ride, or is this road trip comedy in need of a rest stop? The new Jason Bateman/Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief is something close to a sandwich that one loses a taste for soon after ordering it. Stacked high with well-intentioned comedic zaniness and surrounded by freshly-baked acting goodness, the film follows the straight-laced Colorado father Sandy ( Jason Bateman , Arrested Development) as he loses - then gains back - his identity from Florida grifter Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids). McCarthy plays Diana, an overweight (big surprise) compulsive liar who's made a living by ruining the credit of others. She steals identities, then spends the victim into prison, all because her family abandoned her at an early age. Society dislikes fat people, and every rejection she endures fuels yet another effort to discredit the good names of hard-working, normal-looking people. As ci

GANGSTER SQUAD Review. It's That Good!

GANGSTER SQUAD Review By: MattInRC Does GANGSTER SQUAD cut the mustard as a 1940's crime thriller, or does it get lost in martinis and swing music? I really enjoy well-done gangster flicks. From The Untouchables to LA Confidential , modern tales of classic mob bosses who 'clip and fence' their way to top - and the cops who take them down - provide a fascinating commentary on one of the most violent periods in American history. Luckily,  GANGSTER SQUAD  can join that list of able-bodied films. It's smart, a little funny, well-written and directed, and features some of the best performances of the year. Granted it's only January, but Gangster Squad is that good. Set in 1949 Los Angeles, Squad follows mob boss Mickey Cohen ( Sean Penn , At Close Range) as he attempts to gain control of the city. A former championship boxer, Cohen uses brutal tactics to expand his territory while fending off bosses from Chicago. To him, it's just another bou

Safe House Sequel In The Works

Universal is working on a follow-up to one of its biggest domestic hits of 2012, Safe House . David Guggenheim , who wrote the original script while working a day job as an editor at Us Weekly, is back to pen the as-yet-untitled sequel. Scott Stuber is returning as producer via his Universal-based Bluegrass Films. The action-thriller original followed a bored young CIA agent ( Ryan Reynolds ) overseeing a South African safe house who is thrust into a life-and-death adventure when he has to keep a rogue agent ( Denzel Washington ) safe. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Safe House made $126 million domestically and $202 million worldwide. Reynolds likely would return to star in the sequel, though a source says no deal has been made. Washington’s involvement is less clear because (spoiler alert) his character didn't survive the first movie. Sources say the studio is keen to have Washington involved, however. All parties were mum as to whether the new project would be a prequel

SAFE HOUSE Blu-Ray Review By: MattINRC

SAFE HOUSE Blu-Ray Review By: MattINRC SAFE HOUSE is a gritty and engrossing spy thriller that sports an excellent transfer and good supplements. A lot has been made of Ryan Reynolds since his franchise-ending performance in Green Lantern in 2011. What seemed like a bankable actor in 2010 suddenly became a Hollywood after-thought. Even a good rebound performance in Buried couldn't get audiences to come back. That's why a meaty role like Safe House was just the thing he needed, proving to everyone that good roles and production values can bring almost anyone back from such colossal disappointments as Green Lantern . Say what you want about him, but everything about  SAFE HOUSE  is top notch. The Movie - 4/5 Matt Weston ( Reynolds ) is a young CIA agent whose career is stuck managing a safe house in Cape Town, South Africa. A haven for agents on the run, those planning an operation, or those interrogating a prisoner, a safe house is almost like CIA's home a

Gangster Squad Trailer Is Here

We have the first trailer for The Gangster Squad , the film was directed by Ruben Fleischer ,and written by Will Beall. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Robert Patrick, Frank Grillo, Michael Peña, Nick Nolte, Michael Papajohn and Josh Brolin . The film is set to be released on October 19, 2012 Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “Gangster Squad” is

SAFE HOUSE Movie Review By: RAMA

SAFE HOUSE Movie Review By: RAMA Did RAMA find a safe place to watch SAFE HOUSE ? Make sure to follow him on Facebook and Twitter . Here we go again with Denzel mentoring a rookie by sharing some of his ground rules. SAFE HOUSE is very formulaic, it only makes you think like it’s smart and if it weren’t for the intense, unforgiving gunfights, one of the most exciting I’ve seen in cinema (Tombstone‘s gunfight still takes top honor) SAFE HOUSE probably wouldn’t have much going to help me recommend it to you… Oscar(r) winner Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-thriller Safe House. Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he’s remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative ( Reynolds ) escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead. For the past year, Matt Weston has been frustrated b
