The Counselor Review. Does Ridley Scott's Return To Crime Thrillers Pay Off?

The Counselor Review By: MattInRC TWITTER: Does Ridley Scott's return to crime thrillers pay off in The Counselor? Not so much. The well-cast but poorly-edited The Counselor takes too long to suck us in.   Warning: Boring times and SPOILERS ahead! Do you have control of your life once the 'big decision' is made? Job? Marriage? Family? How about a Juarez drug deal gone horribly wrong? That's the premise of The Counselor , a well-cast but horribly-edited film that stunningly wastes all of its assets, making us realize that bad decisions do have consequences. A lawyer ( Michael Fassbender ) on the financial ropes enters the drug trafficking world, only to see his 'investment' stolen by the scheming girlfriend of his naive partner Reiner ( Javier Bardem ). Malkina ( Cameron Diaz ) loves the fine life, climbing the ladder by screwing and (probably) killing her way through men and their money. She's the quintessential 'damaged goods' girl,

Joel Edgerton To Star In Exodus

The " Zero Dark Thirty " star is in talks to play the Egyptian ruler opposite Christian Bale's Moses in the 20th Century Fox film. Joel Edgerton is in talks to star opposite Christian Bale in Ridley Scott's Biblical epic Exodus . The actor, who cemented his in-demand status after a series of high-profile roles including Zero Dark Thirty and The Great Gatsby, would play the Egyptian ruler Ramses in the 20th Century Fox film that is moving toward a September start date. Bale is onboard to portray Moses. Exodus will shoot in Spain, Morocco and England. The project had picked up steam earlier this year when Steve Zaillian came on board to do a rewrite on Adam Cooper and Bill Collage's original draft. Peter Chernin, who bought the project as a pitch, is producing alongside Scott. Both Chernin and Scott are based at Fox, as is Zaillian and Garrett Basch's Film Rites. Edgerton broke out in Gavin O'Connor's 2011 MMA drama Warrior. He recently

The Counselor Trailer Starring Michael Fassbender & Brad Pitt

The Counselor or The Counsellor? It depends if you're American (the former) or British (the latter), but really, it doesn't much matter. All that counts is that this is Ridley Scott directing a Cormac McCarthy script, with Michael Fassbender starring alongside Cameron Diaz , Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and Brad Pitt . The film also comes laden with slightly less well-known acting goodness in the form of Goran Visnjic, Bruno Ganz, Natalie Dormer and even Breaking Bad’s Hank, Dean Norris, who all show up in the No Country For Old Men writer's tale of crime, corruption and one man getting into very deep doo-doo. Despite his belief that he can get involved with narco-trading, make a mint and pull the escape cord any time he likes, Fassbender’s main man soon ends up in real trouble, on the run from seriously nasty people. As Bardem says, “You won’t see it coming.” Please Leave A Comment- Source-Empire

Prometheus Sequel Could Be On It's Way

Are your excited about this news? The studio's big summer bet was Ridley Scott's Prometheus , June's sort-of Alien prequel. The $130 million-budgeted film grossed a solid but not spectacular $303 million globally, putting it right on the franchise bubble. Fox confirms to THR that Scott and the studio actively are pushing ahead with a follow-up (stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed) and are talking to new writers because Prometheus co-scribe Damon Lindelof might not be available. "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it," says Fox president of production Emma Watts, who also has overseen the successful reboots of the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises. A Prometheus sequel would be released in 2014 or 2015. Please Leave A Comment-

Penelope Cruz Joins The Counselor

As expected, Penelope Cruz has joined the stellar cast of the Ridley Scott -directed The Counselor , and I’m told that she is planning to team up again this summer with director Pedro Almodovar in Los Amantes Pasajeros, the comedy he will shoot this summer in Madrid. The title’s translation is The Brief Lovers, and reports say it’s about an affair on an airplane. It is what the actress considers a special collaboration between herself and Almodovar, whose films together include Broken Embraces, Volver, All About My Mother and Live Flesh. Cruz joins Paz Vega, Lola Dueñas, Javier Cámara, Cecelia Roth, Carlos Areces, Raúl Arévalo and José Maria Yazpik. In The Counselor , Cruz will star with Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem and Cameron Diaz in a drama that has been called No Country For Old Men on steroids. THE GREY Blu-Ray Review By: Matt C

THE GREY Blu-Ray Review By: Matt C THE GREY is an uncompromising, engrossing film that suffers from a dissapointing Blu-ray release. Warning: plot spoilers ahead. Liam Neeson Interview For THE GREY Part 1- Death is uncompromising and unrelenting. No matter your physique, personality, or social standing, death will find you regardless if you're ready for it or not. This is where  THE GREY  exists, thriving on that moment when the end of life arrives. The Grey is less man-vs-wolf showdown, more about how man deals with imminent danger and even death. Each scene of this film is difficult to watch and that's a good thing, from the hostile environment of the frozen wastes of Alaska to the way each of our characters meets their end. In a world where Hollywood glorifies the hero standing in triumph,  THE GREY  is a winner for its realistic view of the way people face death. Prometheus Movie Review By Matt C

Prometheus Movie Review By: Matt C When you put a list together of the most influential directors of all time, Ridley Scott has to be near or at the top. Known for two of the greatest science fiction films of all time ( Alien and Blade Runner ), Scott created worlds far from each other, but both rooted in very similar and familiar principles. From the clean white walls of his starships, to the gritty, greasy, well-worn environment behind them, his universe is filled with the very real world ills of corporate greed and the despicable people tasked with running them. In many ways, he has envisioned a future that's more practical and possible than of Star Trek and Star Wars , but not one that's comfortable to watch. Other directors have followed suit, each with varying levels of success; in fact, one cannot list a science fiction film from the past 30 years that doesn't pay homage in some way to Scott's 'worn universe.' It's with this sort of impressive

Harrison Ford Could Appear In Blade Runner 2

Full disclosure: this is not news. This is just the reporting of an off-hand remark Ridley Scott made about a film that's not even written yet. But hey, it's a quiet morning because it's Memorial Day in the States, and anything we hear about this particular project is exciting. So here we go: Scott has told The Independent that there may be a place in his new Blade Runner for Harrison Ford . This is categorically not to say that the film will be the further adventures of Deckard, meaning that, if Ford were even willing to return to a role that, shall we say, isn't one of his favourites, he wouldn't be the centre of attention. "I don't think it'll be Harrison starring," says Sir Ridders, "but I've got to have him in it somewhere. That'd be amusing..." That's it. Full quote. Warned you it wasn't much. What's interesting is that it doesn't actually contradict what seemed previously to be a flat denial of any po

Prometheus Get To Know David

Fox is kicking the viral campaign for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus up a notch with a brand new video, and Mashable has the exclusive. The studio has crafted an awesome — and creepy — advertisement for “David,” the latest generation android from the fictitious Weyland Corporation. The ad introduces us to David, played by Michael Fassbender , who serves as the butler and maintenance man on the ship at the center of the film. Prometheus , which hits theaters on June 8, 2012, is said to have elements or “DNA” from Scott’s earlier film Alien. The film follows the crew of the spaceship Prometheus as they explore an advanced alien civilization while searching for the origins of humanity. To promote the film, Fox has worked hard to develop an intricate viral marketing campaign. In February, attendees at TED got to view a TEDTalk from the future , by way of a video set in 2023. That talk was given by Guy Pearce , who plays the CEO of the Weyland Corporation in the film. Fox is also put

Angelina Jolie Could Join The Counselor

Insiders tell us that Ridley Scott's planned Cormac McCarthy narco-thriller, The Counselor , is rapidly heating up, so much so that Twentieth Century Fox is now in active discussions to distribute and possibly co-finance the movie — provided Scott gets the white-hot cast he's seeking. For instance, on top of Michael Fassbender , who has previously been confirmed to star (which would mark his second collaboration with Scott following this summer's Prometheus ), a Fox insider tells us that Angelina Jolie is in talks with Scott to take a small part. The film, based on an original script by McCarthy, the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Road and No Country for Old Men , is about a lawyer who wants to get just a little bit involved in the drug business. He then discovers that there's no such thing as a little bit involved in the drug business. Intriguingly, Disney announced yesterday that Jolie's upcoming film Maleficent will be released in the United State
