BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Movie Review: The Snowman

The unusual The Snowman wastes its great cast on a careless and disposable plot. Review by Matt Cummings October is supposed to be the beginning of Oscar season, when serious candidates strut their stuff in an attempt to win our hearts and ostensibly the MPAA. Sadly The Snowman fails to achieve either goal, delivering an unusual and thoroughly disappointing mess that makes it one of the worst movies of the year. Olso Detective Harry Hole (Michael Fassbender) has a problem: he needs a case and soon. Drunk most of the time, the leader of an elite homicide squad has seen his marriage to Rakel (Charlotte Gainsbourg) dissolve and his relationship with his son entering a new phase. Soon, Hole gets his wish, as Oslo is gripped by a series of high-profile murders, in which a snowman appears outside the victim's home. Hole is assisted by the recruit Katrine Bratt (Rebecca Ferguson), who herself holds a dark secret that might have something to do with the murders. Their in

Mission: Impossible 6 New Set Photo

Christopher McQuarrie and his Mission: Impossible 6 cast have been busy globe-trotting as they gather the required footage for the new movie. To celebrate the end of their New Zealand stint, Tom Cruise posted an image of his Ethan Hunt and some of the team to Twitter. Pictured with him are two of the veterans, Simon Pegg's Benji Dunn and Ving Rhames' Luther Stickell, along with Rebecca Ferguson's Isla Faust, who first encountered the team on their last madcap adventure in Rogue Nation and is back for this one. The sixth film (no word on whether it really will be known as M:I6 just to piss off James Bond) has been shooting in Paris and now NZ, with the usual assortment of other places planned and some promised big stunts for Cruise in particular. Come on, as if they can stop him at this point... With McQuarrie once again also on script duty, the movie features returning villain Solomon Lane (played by Sean Harris), familiar faces Julia (Michelle Monaghan), and Alan

Movie Review: #TheGirlOnTheTrain

The Girl on The Train is a messy but expertly-acted thriller. Review by Matt Cummings In the world of feminist hype, men and women seem strictly divided on opposite sides of the street: men are perceived as evil, while women are silent victims doomed to never right their ship. Universal's The Girl on The Train never gets that smart, wasting a ton of good performances on gratuitous skin scenes that do nothing to further the unsatisfying and messy plot. For the ex-wife drunkard Rachel (Emily Blunt), life is now a lonely trip on the Amtrak between home and work, forced daily to ride by her former home while she watches the homewrecker Anna (Rebecca Ferguson) enjoy a life with Rachel's ex-husband (Justin Theroux). Each time the train slows to accommodate a faster-moving one, Rachel is given unwanted access that can only be minimized with large quantities of vodka. But when her former neighbor - the sexually-charged Megan (Haley Bennett) - disappears after Rachel wi

Rebecca Ferguson Cast Along Side Hugh Jackman In The Greatest Showman

Variety is reporting Rebecca Ferguson has been cast opposite Hugh Jackman in Fox’s P.T. Barnum musical biopic “ The Greatest Showman ” as Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind. She joins Zac Efron, Michelle Williams and Zendaya on the project. Michael Gracey is directing from a script by Michael Arndt. Chernin Entertainment and Laurence Mark are producing. Production is set to begin in the fall. Justin Paul and Benj Pasek, who were Tony-nominated for “The Christmas Story,” are writing original songs for the film. Kira Goldberg is overseeing the project for Fox. The project has been in development since 2009 with Jackman attached to play the showman, who rose from humble roots and was able to hoax a gullible public, as he created the three-ring Barnum & Bailey Circus that made him famous. Barnum gained fame as a 19th century impresario with tours of Tom Thumb and Lind; he began calling it the “Greatest Show on Earth” near the end of his career. Ferguson, who broke out in

Movie Review: #FlorenceFosterJenkins

Florence Foster Jenkins demands your laughter, then punishes you for even thinking about it. Review by Matt Cummings To be fair and completely honest, the period dramedy Florence Foster Jenkins wasn't exactly on my list of summer-must-sees; and to its credit, the film is well cast, proficiently acted and directed, and looks terrific. But the final effect is missing something, and I think I have the answer. For New York patron of the arts Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep), life for the 1940's socialite is filled with music and lavish gatherings. But Florence hides two important secrets: she contracted syphilis from her first husband, and as a result she cannot hear herself too well. She also desires to be an opera singer, but is blissfully unaware that she can't sing. I mean she's awful, dreadful, even comical according to some. But her husband St Clair (Hugh Grant) dutifully supports her anyways by hiring a pianist Cosme (Simon Helberg), who is al
