For almost 30 years, some wondered what happened to that Norwegian camp that Kurt Russell visited in the John Carpenter-directed version. Why was that one dude seated frozen with his throat slit?! THE THING prequel attempts to answer those questions and although the film is not poorly made, perhaps it’s a story that may not necessarily need to be told because the mystery of it all was part of the old film’s attraction, especially to those of us who weren’t familiar with the material, “who goes there” that became the basis for this franchise. Yes, it's somewhat confusing for the 2011 prequel to 1982's The Thing to also be called The Thing , but it's definitely the new one that we're dealing with now, as we present a new clip from the new story of alien goings-on in the Antarctic and the dangers of thoughtlessly thawing out shapeshifting beasties. This story picks up a thread briefly touched on in the John Carpenter Thing, wherein we learn that the alien had been discovered under the Antarctic ice, deep frozen, and brought inside by the staff of a Norwegian Antarctic base. Given the havoc it wreaked in Carpenter's film, it's no spoiler to say that not all of them would, with hindsight, describe the decision to bring the thing indoors as a good one. Today is Valentines Day and I guess even Abe has a lovely lady to celebrate with tonight.  Director Timur Bekmambetov has found his leading lady to play  Mary Todd in the upcoming film  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter which is an adaptation of Seth Graham-Smith's novel with the same name.
