Variety is reporting that Marisa Tomei is the choice to play Aunt May in the next installment of the “Spider-Man” franchise. Sony and Marvel had no comment on the casting. While insiders could not say where things stood in the deal-making process, they said an offer was made late last week for the Oscar-winning actress to join Tom Holland , who was recently tapped to play the webslinging superhero. Marvel and Sony recently hand-picked Holland to play Spider-Man after months of meetings and screen tests with eager young actors, in addition to selecting “Cop Car” helmer Jon Watts to direct the pic. The studios are still in the process of finding a writer to join Watts in the screenwriting process, but insiders explained that the top brass also wanted to lock down other actors who would appear in multiple films so schedules could be worked out before shooting commences next year. There was a time when nice live-action family comedies ruled the movie theaters. Forget about well-made, Oscar nominated-fare - we're talking about films you could sit your kids in front of for a good laugh while still appealing to mom and dad with hidden sexual innuendos. Parenthood, Father of the Bride, Christmas Vacation, and Home Alone became instant classics that extended the careers of Steve Martin, Chevy Chase , and other mid-aged actors desperately looking for paychecks. Now that Hugh Grant and writer/director Marc Lawrence have officially decided to join forces for what will be their fourth romantic-comedy collaboration, they’re starting to lock down actors for other roles in the new, as-yet-untitled movie. According to The Wrap , Marisa Tomei is in negotiations to sign on. The film will focus on Ray Michaels ( Grant ), a charming, handsome Englishman who is the toast of Hollywood in the late 1980s. A successful screenwriter, he has Tinseltown at his feet after winning an Oscar for Best Screenplay. But the fickle finger of fortune decides to mess with him, and 15 years later, he’s creatively washed-up, flat broke and utterly unemployed. Marisa Tomei and Joshua Jackson have joined Alexander Siddig aboard the thriller Inescapable , which  Ruba Nadda wrote the script and will direct the story of a Syrian expatriate ( Siddig ) whose journalist daughter goes missing in Damascus, and he must return to his homeland to find her and calls on a former love ( Tomei ) to help him. An embassy official ( Jackson ) is at first helpful but may have an agenda of his own. Daniel Iron and Lance Samuels are producing.
