As is the way of things with new Star Wars movies, the rumors have flown thick and fast about Rogue One , which is headed our way this December. Now, cutting through the unofficial chatter comes Entertainment Weekly, using its latest cover to report that Darth Vader will indeed be making an appearance in the new movie. That locks down a long-touted rumour that the world's wheeziest villain will indeed be part of the Imperial effort to keep the plans for the first Death Star out of rebel hands (nice going, dude) and that he'll be acting, per usual, as the Emperor's enforcer. Which will be a subject of concern and fear for Ben Mendelsohn's Director Krennic. Who's in the Vader suit? Star Wars stand-alone movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will undergo several weeks’ worth of additional shooting, sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. Much of the cast and director Gareth Edwards will regroup in mid-June for another round of shooting. The move is happening after execs screened the film and felt it was tonally off with what a “classic” Star Wars movie should feel like. The pic has not yet been tested before audiences, but one source describes the cut as having the feel of a war movie. The goal of the reshoots will be to lighten the mood, bring some levity into the story and restore a sense of fun to the adventure. Rogue One focuses on the fabled mission hinted at in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, that of a group of rebels stealing the plans to the Death Star. This morning, The Walt Disney Studios announced new release dates for upcoming films from two of its major franchises. Star Wars: Episode VIII , originally scheduled for release on May 26, 2017, will now debut on December 15, 2017. The move follows the extraordinary success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens , which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere in December. THR is reporting that Sony sent a letter to Relativity stating its intention to terminate Relativity's deal for U.S. rights to The Bronze , according to sources. Relativity struck the $3 million pact with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions after the comedy — written by and starring The Big Bang Theory actress Melissa Rauch — debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Letters of termination are sent when a distributor has failed to satisfy, or "cure," various provisions of a contract. (A notice of termination would follow a cure letter). Sony and Relativity declined to comment regarding The Bronze, which was produced by the Duplass brothers. After a series of hush-hush readings and tests, Lucasfilm and Disney have zeroed in on Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones for the female lead in the Star Wars stand-alone film. Jones is now in talks to star in the project, which Gareth Edwards is directing and Chris Weitz — who was just hired last week — is writing. Weitz is replacing Gary Whitta, who penned the first draft. Actresses were meeting, reading and testing last week in Los Angeles for the role, with Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara among those in the mix. The secrecy surrounding the project is thicker than the mists of Dagobah, and it is even unclear which character the stand-alone is focusing on.
