Variety is reporting “ Star Wars: Episode IX ” is set to fly into theaters on May 24, 2019, Disney announced on Tuesday. Colin Trevorrow is on board to direct. Disney had staked out December for “ Star Wars: The Force Awakens ” and the upcoming “ Star Wars: The Last Jedi ,” but now returns to the summer, where every other previous installment had bowed. Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac are all expected to return. Disney recently revealed that Carrie Fisher, who died late last year, will not appear in the film. Earlier this month, Disney released the first trailer for “The Last Jedi,” which bows this December, at Disney’s “Star Wars Celebration” event. “The Force Awakens” and the recently released “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” crushed box office records, with both films surpassing $1 billion at the worldwide box office. THR is reporting Doug Liman is on board to direct the YA post-apocalyptic thriller. Tom Holland , who is playing Spider-Man in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming , is in negotiations to join Daisy Ridley in Lionsgate’s post-apocalyptic thriller Chaos Walking . Doug Liman is directing the project, an adaptation of the best-selling YA novel by Patrick Ness. The story takes place in a world where all women have been killed by a germ and all living creatures can hear one another's thoughts in a stream of images, words and sounds called Noise. Holland would star as a boy forced to flee his town with his loyal dog and who comes upon a strange sight: a girl (Ridley). We brought word last month that James Corden and Rose Byrne had landed two of the lead roles in a planned live-action/CG blend version of Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit for Sony. They have some company now in the shape of Daisy Ridley and Elizabeth Debicki . Annie's Will Gluck is directing the film, which will see its animated creatures handled by Animal Logic, the company that provided Emmet and co. for The Lego Movie. The director also did a pass on the script, which has previously been written by Rob Lieber. Corden is set as the voice of Peter, with Byrne playing a live-action character named Bea. Ridley and Debicki's characters have not been announced, but they're listed as voice roles, so perhaps they're playing part of Peter's family. Daisy Ridley has publicly confirmed for the first that she has been approached to play Lara Croft in a new adaptation of the Tomb Raider series – paving the way for all manner of ‘Tomb Rey-der’ puns.
