Last week, Bryan Singer announced that 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse will reintroduce Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm to the mutant superteam franchise. Now, EW can exclusively reveal that Apocalypse will feature the return trip for another franchise player: Rose Byrne ’s Moira MacTaggert, the CIA agent and Professor X love interest introduced in 2011’s First Class. “She’s a significant character in the movie,” says Apocalypse writer Simon Kinberg, returning to the franchise after Days of Future Past. “We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them.” Apocalypse is set in the early ’80s, roughly 20 years after First Class, and Kinberg is mum about how she ties into the film. We saw – spoiler alert for those who didn’t – at the end of X-Men: Days Of Future Past that Famke Janssen ’s Jean Grey and James Marsden ’s Cyclops were restored to the timeline by Wolverine and co.’s actions in the past. But it appears that Bryan Singer is ready to exploit the 1980s setting of the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse to show younger versions of the characters, and the initial round of casting rumours has begun with the likes of Chloë Grace Moretz, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Hardy, Charlie Rowe and Timothee Chalamet in early consideration for the roles. According to The Wrap , these are all very basic feelers being put out by 20th Century Fox and the X-Men team, and nothing formal has been sorted yet. Mark Millar , whose comic books were the basis for this franchise is uncertain about the possibility of the third installment.. “With “ Kick-Ass ,” it was a no brainer. It was made for $28 million and made $100 million back and then made another $140 million on DVD. So for the money guys, it was a $28 million investment that made $240 million. That’s a slam dunk. You’re getting your sequel. The second one didn’t make as much. It cost a little less at around $24 million, made $61 million and made about $100 million again on DVD and TV rights. It was still profitable. It was by no means “ The Lone Ranger .” But does that mean we’ll make another one again? I don’t know. It’s definitely up in the air, and we’ll just have to see. Why is it that Hollywood can't learn its lesson of remaking classic films? You would have thought they had learned something from the well-intentioned but soulless Sabrina , or Mark Wahlberg's Planet of the Apes . Kick-Ass 2 Review By: MattInRC The wild Kick-Ass 2 delivers all the fun and gore of the first, even if it betrays some of its morals. Comic book movies have followed a parallel path with the Sci-Fi & Action genres ever since Bryan Singer's X-Men : due to the nature of the characters, it's perfectly acceptable to display implausible violence. Whether it's watching an entire city leveled or some fantastic move by a superhuman or mutant, we've been willing to play along. But when a comic book film proposes that it's better than that - and then proceeds to display the same sort of images - casual fans might have a hard time distinguishing between it and the litany of films which occupy Summer theaters.
