New Year's Day this year may be spent entirely on the couch for fans devoted to Ross, Rachel and the gang . The complete series of Friends will start streaming on Netflix on Jan. 1 . This is the first time the NBC series will be available on a streaming service. Other movies coming to Netflix next month include Chef; Cast Away; 101 Dalmatians; and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The Fall season is upon us, and with that comes what's supposed to be a higher class of film; these are billed as deep, psychological studies or historical dramas with serious looks by serious people. Thankfully, neither of these is contained in the animated comedy Free Birds , and we're better for it. The turkey Reggie (voiced by Owen Wilson ) is a shy but intelligent bird who doesn't understand why his fellow brethren succumb to the slaughter house with such ease. Christopher Meloni is joining the cast of They Came Together , Lionsgate’s romantic comedy spoof from director David Wain. Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler star as a man and woman who dislike each other, with Rudd's company trying to close down Poehler's candle store. The movie is in casting mode as it eyes a July start, with Ed Helms, Cobie Smulders and Jason Mantzoukas among those already set. Meloni will play Rudd’s boss, the CEO of CorporateCo Corporation and Co., Inc. Wain, director of Role Models and Wanderlust, co-wrote the script with Wet Hot American Summer partner Michael Showalter. Meloni, the former star of TV’s long-running Law & Order: SVU, is appearing on HBO’s True Blood. Fantastical, flawless, fun family film, wow, that’s a lot of Fs, but seriously it’s great to have Studio Ghibli back with their latest adaptation, since I wasn’t completely taken by Ponyo. I think the American voice cast were great, I’m curious to know what may or may not have gotten lost in the translation and the adaptation though, since I’ve never read the children book series that it’s based on. The animation is all that you’d expect from Ghibli, I appreciate how they stay true to their style, they don’t need to go 3D CG just to blow us away. Traditional animation with a compelling story and heartwarming themes, that’s what THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY promises and delivers..
