2014 The Geekie Awards Submissions Are Open

The Geekie Awards Receive Over One Billion Media Impressions – 2014 Submissions Open to Indie Creators Worldwide March 1st – May 31st, 2014

2014 Submissions opened March 1st for the 2nd Annual Geekie Awards to honor indie artists, filmmakers and creators from around the world.

After receiving over one billion media impressions it’s first year—a record high for any independent award show created outside a major network or studio—The Geekie Awards opened its doors for 2014 submissions on March 1st to a new wave of indie creators.

The Geekie Awards is an award show by geeks for geeks, created by Showrunner and Geek Host Kristen Nedopak to honor the best indie-created entertainment, gaming, art and products in the world. The live broadcast event aims to inspire hope and creativity in up-and-coming creators by giving them the opportunity to receive recognition in front of a worldwide audience and leaders in their respective industries.

Nedopak, who turned the show’s concept into a celebrity- and fan-attended event last August, was as shocked as anyone to have received this level of acknowledgement year one. “I had this crazy little show idea back in 2010, and it manifested into something truly huge and amazing, thanks to the support of this incredible community. To give you an idea of how big one billion media impressions are, San Diego Comic Con receives 1.4 billion impressions each year, which is valued at $15.4 million worth of advertising. After just one year, we're catching up,” comments Nedopak.

The Geekie Awards trademarked hash tag #RUGeekie was the #1 ranked trending topic on Twitter the evening of the event, August 18th, beating out AMC's Breaking Bad and HBO's True Blood season finale. Celebrity guests and presenters include Stan Lee, Seth Green, NASA, Richard Hatch, Grant Imahara, Alison Haislip, Ralph Garmen, Samm Levine and more.

Among last year’s award winner success stories are Ken Pisani, whose Best Comic/Graphic Novel-winning book “Colonus” was picked up by Dark Horse Comics for publishing and was recently featured on the premiere of “The Big Bang Theory.” Legendary Entertainment hired Best Art/Craft winner Alex "The Pumpkin Geek" to carve over 100 pumpkins for a Hollywood premiere, and he’s since then been a featured guest on “Yahoo’s DayTime in No Time” and “Good Day Sacramento.” The nominated game show podcast “What Do You Know?” was swooped up by Jon Lovitz's new YouTube comedy channel. Proof that the show’s mission to help creators was a success.

Submissions for the 2014 show run from March 1st through May 31st. Entry fees will increase each month to prompt early entry. All information regarding submitting for 2014 can be found on the website: http://www.thegeekieawards.com/

2014 categories include: Indie Video Games, Web Series, Short Films, Podcasts/Vlogs, Trailers/Videos, Tabletop Games, Online Personality (hosts, vloggers, comedians), Art/Craft, Comics/Graphic Novel, Cosplay, Fashion/Armor, and Website/Blogs.

The Geekie Awards, in association with Nedopak Productions LLC, would like to acknowledge the 2014 sponsors who have come on board thus far: Soulcake, International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV), IndieFlix, ITV Fest and Cupcake Quarterly Magazine.

Sex Tape Review: Overly Sexual, Rude, Vulgar, and Absolutely Hilarious

The raunchy Sex Tape will divide audiences and critics, but who cares? Sex Tape suggests a growing practice among loving partners: that of making a raunchy testament of their escapades for posterity. But what happens when that evidence gets seen by friends, neighbors, and even the mailman? This is the plot that pits Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) in an effort to secure every iPad gift Jay has given, his record company playlists being the envy of the recipients, but which has also inadvertently spread the video to every device. The reason for the act - termed in the movie as pulling "the full Lincoln " for its three-hour length - stems from the couple's non-existent social life, brought on by the constant demands of their children. The couple has a lot to lose: a burgeoning business relationship between Annie and Hank (Rob Lowe) could end if the iPad she's given to Hank exposes the video, and so the couple sets out to reclaim and wipe the incrim...

Movie Review: #Vacation

Vacation makes me want to take a STAY-cation. Review by Matt Cummings It's not too often that a movie makes me wish film never existed, yet her I am ready to give the newest Vacation all the hate it deserves. And hate on it I will. Grown-up Rusty (Ed Helms) is stuck in a dull marriage to Debbie (Christina Applegate), who's been forced year after year to spend vacation with her family at a cabin in Michigan. When the overly optimistic Rusty realizes his family needs a change, he packs them up for a trip to Walley World, the site of his greatest trip as a teen. But soon, his family begins to encounter difficulties and flat-out disasters that could end their road trip and return Rusty's marriage back to square one. It might surprise our readers to know that someone from our team actually considered walking out of Vacation , and we get to see these films for free. That's how bad our experience became as we sat mesmerized by its 99 minutes of ineptit...
