First 6 Minutes From A&E’s Bates Motel

We’re still a little over a week away from the debut of A&E’s Bates Motel, but the first six minutes of the Psycho prequel series has leaked online. Want to see?

The prequel, which is set in the present day, oddly enough, takes a look at a young Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his creepy mom (Vera Farmiga). The series was created by executive producers Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights), and is at least an intriguing setup for a character study.

So what about the footage? It definitely has a Hitchcockian feel, and traces the death of Norman’s father. It also shows the extremely close (and unsettling) bond he has with his mother, as well as the arrival at that infamous motel.
