BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

SURROGATE VALENTINE SXSW Film Festival

Tiger Industry Films, the boutique production and distribution collective today announced the release plan of its new film SURROGATE VALENTINE via movies-on-demand platform of major national cable systems, including Comcast, Cablevision, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Dish Network, and Direct TV. Premiering at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival, the film will be available for a limited time on DVD during the festival run and on VOD starting fall of 2011.

The creative team behind SURROGATE VALENTINE previously released director Dave Boyle's comedy WHITE ON RICE in 2009 theatrically (with co-distributor Variance Films) and on DVD. While embracing the popular VOD platform, Tiger Industry Films will also make a limited number of DVDs available for purchase during the film's festival run. The team is excited to bring its new film to a wider audience and look beyond the traditional release plan of an independent film.

SURROGATE VALENTINE is Boyle's follow up to WHITE ON RICE. It is a sweet romantic comedy about San Francisco musician & rising star Goh Nakamura's (playing himself) life of solitude being disrupted when he is hired to teach TV actor Danny Turner (Chadd Stoops) how to play guitar for an upcoming film. Hellbent on accurately portraying Goh's mellow vibe for his role, Danny meticulously studies his every move. Together, the two embark on a hilarious West Coast adventure involving live gigs, groupies, shotgun-wielding record exes and an unexpected friendship. Along the way, Goh discovers that Danny may be the missing puzzle piece in his life-long chase for Rachel (Lynn Chen), the one that got away.

The film will be showcased in other major festivals after its premiere at SXSW next month.

Dave Boyle, director/co-founder of Tiger Industry Films said, "On VOD and DVD alone, WHITE ON RICE returned three times the budget of SURROGATE VALENTINE. So it makes sense for us to go those routes with the festival run as the theatrical. We've found an economic model for our films that is sustainable through self-distribution."

Michael Lerman, producer/co-founder of Tiger Industry Films said, "Everyone keeps talking about new versus old models of distribution and we're really thrilled that SURROGATE VALENTINE has found its correct place in that conversation. We're by no means turning towards 'The Way of the Future,' but, as we prepare to go back into production again in August on a new film, we're just excited we've found a way to keep making movies."

SURROGATE VALENTINE is the Closing Night film for the 29th Annual San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to purchase limited edition collectible DVDs which include a digital download for the soundtrack by lead actor and composer Goh Nakamura and an HD version of the film. The soundtrack will be made available as a 7" vinyl single, with a digital download code for both the complete soundtrack as well as the HD version of the film.

Both items, along with the DVD and other merchandise, will also be sold through the official website www.surrogatevalentine.com following the SXSW premiere.

Sex Tape Review: Overly Sexual, Rude, Vulgar, and Absolutely Hilarious

The raunchy Sex Tape will divide audiences and critics, but who cares? Sex Tape suggests a growing practice among loving partners: that of making a raunchy testament of their escapades for posterity. But what happens when that evidence gets seen by friends, neighbors, and even the mailman? This is the plot that pits Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) in an effort to secure every iPad gift Jay has given, his record company playlists being the envy of the recipients, but which has also inadvertently spread the video to every device. The reason for the act - termed in the movie as pulling "the full Lincoln " for its three-hour length - stems from the couple's non-existent social life, brought on by the constant demands of their children. The couple has a lot to lose: a burgeoning business relationship between Annie and Hank (Rob Lowe) could end if the iPad she's given to Hank exposes the video, and so the couple sets out to reclaim and wipe the incrim...

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert?

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert? We're halfway checked out for the holiday weekend, so let's end with bit of comedy. A litigious videogame player is calling Winona Ryder to testify as an expert in "alienation." Erik Estavillo has filed a $1 million lawsuit in California Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, publisher of "World of Warcraft," saying it "maintain(s) a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game's sneaky and deceitful practices." The plaintiff says he suffers from several mental health problems brought on by WoW's "alienating" features, such as forcing beginners to walk or run to get from one point to another instead of speedier options available to those who master the game or buy an expansion pack. Estavillo says that the slow pace is "deceitful" because more time = more subscription revenue for Activision. Here's where Winona Ryder comes...
