Larson has the role of Carol Danvers, a skilled test pilot whose DNA is melded with that of Kree warrior Mar-Vell. Subsequently, she gains powers such as flight, enhanced strength, damage resistance and the ability to absorb and re-channel energy. Guardians Of The Galaxy's Nicole Perlman and Inside Out's Meg LeFauve have been at work on the script, but there's no director attached yet.
Though it wasn't exactly kept quiet, Larson's presence at the convention was at least easy to explain given that she was also here to promote Kong: Skull Island (the King Kong film put out a first trailer during the Warner Bros. panel).
It's a relief to finally have someone officially playing the part, and Larson – who won an Oscar this year for her work in Room – is a great choice, who can handle comedy and drama equally. We still have a wait ahead of us, though: Captain Marvel won't fly on to screens until March 8, 2019, though there's a chance she could be introduced in the first Avengers: Infinity War film, due April 2018.
