BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Mavericks Invitational's Is On. Get Cast In The Film

Here's an update from the story we reported on Yesterday. The San Mateo County Harbor Commission approved Mavericks Invitational's contest permit application tonight at its regular meeting in South San Francisco.

Mavericks Invitational board members Jeff Clark, Cassandra Clark, Ken Collins and Rocky Raynor all spoke out in regards to the permit fee being raised by $10,000 in the last two months.

The Commission voted 3-1 to approve the permit with a cost of $30,000 to the contest organizers. Pietro Parravano was the lone dissenter of the group, saying that he felt the $30,000 permit cost was too high.

And if you have ever wanted to be in a movie and live in Santa Cruz or anywhere in California they are going to be casting extras for the upcoming film Mavericks, starring Gerard Butler. The Curtis Hanson-directed fact-based drama for Walden Media. The film is based on the true story of Santa Cruz surf phenom Jay Moriarity and his quest to ride the treacherous Northern California breaks known as Mavericks, where winter swells create waves the size of five-story buildings. Butler will play Rick "Frosty" Hesson, the mentor who trained Moriarity for over a year and forged a close relationship with the surfer in the process. Though Moriarity survived those impossible waves, he died at 22 in a diving accident. But he remains an inspiration to surfers, who coined the phrase "Live like Jay."

This is your chance, several hundred locals will be needed to be extras in the film. Filming will take place in Santa Cruz sometime in October of this year. Make your way over HERE for more information.

Sex Tape Review: Overly Sexual, Rude, Vulgar, and Absolutely Hilarious

The raunchy Sex Tape will divide audiences and critics, but who cares? Sex Tape suggests a growing practice among loving partners: that of making a raunchy testament of their escapades for posterity. But what happens when that evidence gets seen by friends, neighbors, and even the mailman? This is the plot that pits Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) in an effort to secure every iPad gift Jay has given, his record company playlists being the envy of the recipients, but which has also inadvertently spread the video to every device. The reason for the act - termed in the movie as pulling "the full Lincoln " for its three-hour length - stems from the couple's non-existent social life, brought on by the constant demands of their children. The couple has a lot to lose: a burgeoning business relationship between Annie and Hank (Rob Lowe) could end if the iPad she's given to Hank exposes the video, and so the couple sets out to reclaim and wipe the incrim...

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert?

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert? We're halfway checked out for the holiday weekend, so let's end with bit of comedy. A litigious videogame player is calling Winona Ryder to testify as an expert in "alienation." Erik Estavillo has filed a $1 million lawsuit in California Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, publisher of "World of Warcraft," saying it "maintain(s) a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game's sneaky and deceitful practices." The plaintiff says he suffers from several mental health problems brought on by WoW's "alienating" features, such as forcing beginners to walk or run to get from one point to another instead of speedier options available to those who master the game or buy an expansion pack. Estavillo says that the slow pace is "deceitful" because more time = more subscription revenue for Activision. Here's where Winona Ryder comes...
