Joss Whedon To Take On The Avengers Film

There goes the neighborhood. Deadline is confirming that  Joss Whedon is in final talks to direct Marvel's proposed The Avengers movie.

I am not sure that I would trust such a high profile franchise with Whedon with his track record being just the film Serenity. I understand he has a Huge following with fanboys and girls and he has written the scripts for several (including his upcoming Cabin in the Woods) and is a well-known script doctor in Hollywood. He's also got a long relationship with Marvel, having written Astonishing X-Men, not to mention an early draft of the X-Men movie, among other things.
